In some ways, it’s both. It’s simple in the fact that we can bring whatever is on our hearts to the Lord at any point in time. The Lord loves when His children, young or old, come to Him in prayer. No seminary degree is needed. He loves when we draw near to Him in that way. On the other hand, the more we grow in Christ, the more our prayers move in deeper directions. At times we may wrestle with knowing exactly how to pray in a given moment. That’s where the prayers of the Bible are so helpful. They often reveal directions we may not go on our own. And there’s no doubt that these prayers reflect the will of God given that the Spirit inspired these words. This Sunday we look at Paul’s prayer for the Colossian church. Come join us as we take a dive into this incredibly rich prayer./media:description> media:community> media:starRating count="0" average="0.00" min="1" max="5"/> media:statistics views="0"/> /media:community> /media:group> /entry> entry> id>yt:video:njYwBQuOrpE/id> yt:videoId>njYwBQuOrpE/yt:videoId> yt:channelId>UCZLEd4PhRPtt0DGE4ClDyXA/yt:channelId> title>Rooted Thankfulness | Colossians 1:3-8 | Brian Dagen/title> link rel="alternate" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njYwBQuOrpE"/> author> name>Calvary Chapel Mission Viejo/name> uri>https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZLEd4PhRPtt0DGE4ClDyXA/uri> /author> published>2024-06-24T06:39:43+00:00/published> updated>2024-06-24T18:34:45+00:00/updated> media:group> media:title>Rooted Thankfulness | Colossians 1:3-8 | Brian Dagen/media:title> media:content url="https://www.youtube.com/v/njYwBQuOrpE?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="390"/> media:thumbnail url="https://i3.ytimg.com/vi/njYwBQuOrpE/hqdefault.jpg" width="480" height="360"/> media:description>Probably most of us know that thankfulness is a virtue to be cultivated as Jesus-followers. As a passionate follower of Jesus, Paul regularly modeled thankfulness. It’s not just the fact that Paul was thankful that is notable, however. It’s what he was thankful for that is perhaps surprising, but also significant. This Sunday we’ll explore the next portion of Paul’s introduction to his letter to the Colossians, taking a look at what made him thankful. As preparation for that, please spend some time reading through Colossians 1:3-8, letting the Spirit reveal ways to respond in similar ways as Paul./media:description> media:community> media:starRating count="2" average="5.00" min="1" max="5"/> media:statistics views="77"/> /media:community> /media:group> /entry> entry> id>yt:video:A5eu-QqPkps/id> yt:videoId>A5eu-QqPkps/yt:videoId> yt:channelId>UCZLEd4PhRPtt0DGE4ClDyXA/yt:channelId> title>Let’s Get Down to Business | Matthew 7:13-29 | Nick Johnson/title> link rel="alternate" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5eu-QqPkps"/> author> name>Calvary Chapel Mission Viejo/name> uri>https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZLEd4PhRPtt0DGE4ClDyXA/uri> /author> published>2024-06-10T06:38:00+00:00/published> updated>2024-06-11T07:26:48+00:00/updated> media:group> media:title>Let’s Get Down to Business | Matthew 7:13-29 | Nick Johnson/media:title> media:content url="https://www.youtube.com/v/A5eu-QqPkps?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="390"/> media:thumbnail url="https://i2.ytimg.com/vi/A5eu-QqPkps/hqdefault.jpg" width="480" height="360"/> media:description>You’ve been in this spot any number of times … a pitch for a product or service is being made, you like a lot of what you hear, but when it comes down to signing the papers or paying the money, you aren’t quite ready to take that step. As Jesus rounds the corner of the Sermon on the Mount, He begins to press His hearers to make a choice. It wouldn’t be too difficult to imagine the crowds on that Galilean hillside liked a lot of what they heard. But now, in effect, Jesus asks: “Who do you say that I am?” (Matt. 16:15). In other words, what are you going to do with what you’ve heard? It’s a question the crowds must answer, and it’s a question we must answer./media:description> media:community> media:starRating count="4" average="5.00" min="1" max="5"/> media:statistics views="96"/> /media:community> /media:group> /entry> entry> id>yt:video:4RU-Z84i6dM/id> yt:videoId>4RU-Z84i6dM/yt:videoId> yt:channelId>UCZLEd4PhRPtt0DGE4ClDyXA/yt:channelId> title>Kingdom Relationships | Matthew 7:1-12 | Brian Dagen/title> link rel="alternate" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RU-Z84i6dM"/> author> name>Calvary Chapel Mission Viejo/name> uri>https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZLEd4PhRPtt0DGE4ClDyXA/uri> /author> published>2024-06-03T06:25:54+00:00/published> updated>2024-06-03T06:38:24+00:00/updated> media:group> media:title>Kingdom Relationships | Matthew 7:1-12 | Brian Dagen/media:title> media:content url="https://www.youtube.com/v/4RU-Z84i6dM?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="390"/> media:thumbnail url="https://i1.ytimg.com/vi/4RU-Z84i6dM/hqdefault.jpg" width="480" height="360"/> media:description>Each country has its own rules and regulations. What is expected from residents differs from country to country. The Sermon on the Mount represents Jesus’ most lengthy treatment of what life in His kingdom looks like. In His fairly short sermon, Jesus managed to explicate kingdom implications for His followers. He touched in issues like anger, lust, and oaths. He discussed how to practice piety in a way that is truly honorable and recognized by His Father. Last week we saw how He addressed issues of wealth and worry. In our text for this week, Jesus addresses how kingdom realities are to affect relationships with others. Needless to say, Jesus’ words are piercing. Join us on Sunday at 10 am as we look at Jesus’ insights on kingdom relationships./media:description> media:community> media:starRating count="5" average="5.00" min="1" max="5"/> media:statistics views="63"/> /media:community> /media:group> /entry> entry> id>yt:video:-nptpdTWb0A/id> yt:videoId>-nptpdTWb0A/yt:videoId> yt:channelId>UCZLEd4PhRPtt0DGE4ClDyXA/yt:channelId> title>Piercing the Mirage | Matthew 6:19-34 | Nick Johnson/title> link rel="alternate" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nptpdTWb0A"/> author> name>Calvary Chapel Mission Viejo/name> uri>https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZLEd4PhRPtt0DGE4ClDyXA/uri> /author> published>2024-05-27T06:40:33+00:00/published> updated>2024-06-27T15:14:19+00:00/updated> media:group> media:title>Piercing the Mirage | Matthew 6:19-34 | Nick Johnson/media:title> media:content url="https://www.youtube.com/v/-nptpdTWb0A?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="390"/> media:thumbnail url="https://i2.ytimg.com/vi/-nptpdTWb0A/hqdefault.jpg" width="480" height="360"/> media:description>Imagine that you’ve been traveling through a desert for days. This week in our Sermon on the Mount series, we come to Jesus’ teaching on how His followers are to relate to riches and material possessions. In so many ways, we’ll see Jesus piercing through the mirage of materialism – the delusion that the stuff of earth can satisfy the soul of man. Instead, Jesus will ground our ultimate security and satisfaction in our relationship with Him and teach us how to engage earthly wealth with heavenly wisdom./media:description> media:community> media:starRating count="2" average="5.00" min="1" max="5"/> media:statistics views="73"/> /media:community> /media:group> /entry> entry> id>yt:video:RgPoBR7EiOU/id> yt:videoId>RgPoBR7EiOU/yt:videoId> yt:channelId>UCZLEd4PhRPtt0DGE4ClDyXA/yt:channelId> title>A Prayer to Live | Matthew 6:9-15 | Brian Dagen/title> link rel="alternate" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgPoBR7EiOU"/> author> name>Calvary Chapel Mission Viejo/name> uri>https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZLEd4PhRPtt0DGE4ClDyXA/uri> /author> published>2024-05-20T06:38:22+00:00/published> updated>2024-06-20T14:06:07+00:00/updated> media:group> media:title>A Prayer to Live | Matthew 6:9-15 | Brian Dagen/media:title> media:content url="https://www.youtube.com/v/RgPoBR7EiOU?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="390"/> media:thumbnail url="https://i3.ytimg.com/vi/RgPoBR7EiOU/hqdefault.jpg" width="480" height="360"/> media:description>This Sunday we explore perhaps the most well-known prayer in history by taking a look at what we often call the Lord’s Prayer. The words and petitions are well-known. This prayer has been recited by people, both individually and collectively, for the last two millennia. Perhaps this model prayer from Jesus has become so familiar that it has lost its power and majesty to many. The petitions are stunning, not only in what they reveal about Jesus’ kingdom priorities, but how they invite us to respond. This Sunday we’ll explore the specifics of the prayer to see not only what it invites us to pray about, but how to live. We’ll also partake in communion./media:description> media:community> media:starRating count="3" average="5.00" min="1" max="5"/> media:statistics views="94"/> /media:community> /media:group> /entry> entry> id>yt:video:aq5wLHh1xXg/id> yt:videoId>aq5wLHh1xXg/yt:videoId> yt:channelId>UCZLEd4PhRPtt0DGE4ClDyXA/yt:channelId> title>Motives Matter | Matthew 6:1-18 | Brian Dagen/title> link rel="alternate" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aq5wLHh1xXg"/> author> name>Calvary Chapel Mission Viejo/name> uri>https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZLEd4PhRPtt0DGE4ClDyXA/uri> /author> published>2024-05-13T06:50:12+00:00/published> updated>2024-06-13T14:27:57+00:00/updated> media:group> media:title>Motives Matter | Matthew 6:1-18 | Brian Dagen/media:title> media:content url="https://www.youtube.com/v/aq5wLHh1xXg?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="390"/> media:thumbnail url="https://i2.ytimg.com/vi/aq5wLHh1xXg/hqdefault.jpg" width="480" height="360"/> media:description>Is it enough to do right things, or do motives matter? Many of the Jewish religious leaders of Jesus’ day were known for their piety, but those acts didn’t count for much in the eyes of Jesus because the heart-level motives were wrongly directed. Contrary to the example of the religious leaders, Jesus teaches His disciples how true acts of righteousness are to be done. It’s for this reason, we say things like: “looks can be deceiving”, “things aren’t always what they seem”, etc. What is true in our day was true in the first century, too. In Matthew 5:31-48, Jesus is continuing to expose the dichotomy between street-level superficiality and spiritual substance. He shows that there is often a massive gap between what looks good to us and what is good before God. That account of Jesus crucified and resurrected depicts such stunningly glorious realities that it would be easy to think that Jesus’ followers after that never struggled. All would be good. But John’s gospel records that even after the resurrection Jesus interacted with His disciples in their struggles. There was doubt on the part of one disciple that He had in fact been raised from the dead. Jesus also had to confront another disciple that had denied Him the night before His death not once, not twice, but three times. 1:: The Depths of Prayer | Colossians 1:9-14 | Panel Discussion

01.01.1970 01:00:00 24.06.2024 22:33:38
Is prayer simple or complex? Come join us as we take a dive into this incredibly rich prayer.

2:: Rooted Thankfulness | Colossians 1:3-8 | Brian Dagen

01.01.1970 01:00:00 24.06.2024 06:39:43
Probably most of us know that thankfulness is a virtue to be cultivated as Jesus-followers. As preparation for that, please spend some time reading through Colossians 1:3-8, letting the Spirit reveal ways to respond in similar ways as Paul.

3:: Let’s Get Down to Business | Matthew 7:13-29 | Nick Johnson

01.01.1970 01:00:00 10.06.2024 06:38:00
You’ve been in this spot any number of times … a pitch for a product or service is being made, you like a lot of what you hear, but when it comes down to signing the papers or paying the money, you aren’t quite ready to take that step. It’s a question the crowds must answer, and it’s a question we must answer.

4:: Kingdom Relationships | Matthew 7:1-12 | Brian Dagen

01.01.1970 01:00:00 03.06.2024 06:25:54
Each country has its own rules and regulations. Join us on Sunday at 10 am as we look at Jesus’ insights on kingdom relationships.

5:: Piercing the Mirage | Matthew 6:19-34 | Nick Johnson

01.01.1970 01:00:00 27.05.2024 06:40:33
Imagine that you’ve been traveling through a desert for days. You’re exhausted, thirsty, and feeling faint from the prolonged exposure to extreme heat. You then see what appears to be a lake. Running towards it, you throw yourself forward expecting to be met with sweet relief only to find your mouth full of sand. It was a mirage! This week in our Sermon on the Mount series, we come to Jesus’ teaching on how His followers are to relate to riches and material possessions. In so many ways, we’ll see Jesus piercing through the mirage of materialism – the delusion that the stuff of earth can satisfy the soul of man. Instead, Jesus will ground our ultimate security and satisfaction in our relationship with Him and teach us how to engage earthly wealth with heavenly wisdom.

6:: A Prayer to Live | Matthew 6:9-15 | Brian Dagen

01.01.1970 01:00:00 20.05.2024 06:38:22
This Sunday we explore perhaps the most well-known prayer in history by taking a look at what we often call the Lord’s Prayer. We’ll also partake in communion.

7:: Motives Matter | Matthew 6:1-18 | Brian Dagen

01.01.1970 01:00:00 13.05.2024 06:50:12
Is it enough to do right things, or do motives matter? Many of the Jewish religious leaders of Jesus’ day were known for their piety, but those acts didn’t count for much in the eyes of Jesus because the heart-level motives were wrongly directed. Contrary to the example of the religious leaders, Jesus teaches His disciples how true acts of righteousness are to be done. As we explore the next section of the Sermon on the Mount, we will once again see how Jesus is the Master when it comes to exposing the human heart.

8:: It's NOT All Good! | Matthew 5:31-48 | Nick Johnson

01.01.1970 01:00:00 06.05.2024 07:10:11
It seems like everybody has a story … about the time when something looked ‘all good’ but turned out to be anything but. Ultimately, Jesus’ words drive us toward our need for the grace He is so eager to give.

9:: The Heart of the Matter | Matthew 5:21-30 | Brian Dagen

01.01.1970 01:00:00 29.04.2024 06:33:54
Last week we kicked off a study in the Sermon on the Mount by looking at the Beatitudes, the inner characteristics that are to define citizens of Jesus’ kingdom. As significant as the interior life of the Christian is, Jesus didn’t stop there. He expects His followers to live in such a way that it is noticeable in the world. This Sunday we will explore the metaphors used by Jesus to define the impact of HIs disciples in the world. We’ll also see how and why Jesus clarified His life and ministry with regard to the Old Testament.

10:: Being Salt & Light | Matthew 5:13-20 | Brian Dagen

01.01.1970 01:00:00 22.04.2024 07:52:15

11:: Grace Greater Than Doubt & Denial | John 20:19-29; 21:15-17 | Brian Dagen

01.01.1970 01:00:00 15.04.2024 06:59:06
Last week we reflected on the ultimate story in history, that of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection. We’ll take a look at these post-resurrection encounters this Sunday as part of our Family Sunday service.

12:: Raised to Newness | Matthew 27:62-28:7 | Brian Dagen and Nick Johnson

01.01.1970 01:00:00 01.04.2024 06:38:45
As we gather to remember Jesus raised from the dead on Sunday, we will take a look back at the account of resurrection morning. From there, however, we will ask the question, “What difference does that make for us?” We will unpack a bit of the massive significance to all humanity of the fact that Jesus was raised again to life. Come this Sunday morning to remember, celebrate and worship. Even more, invite someone to join you. Prayerfully consider whom you might invite to come with you.

13:: Who Is This? | Matthew 21:1-11 | Panel

01.01.1970 01:00:00 25.03.2024 06:55:22
“Who is this?” This was a question frequently repeated about Jesus from both disciples and non-disciples. Even those closest to Him struggled to grasp the fullness of who He is. That question was repeated by some who saw Jesus enter into Jerusalem while riding on a donkey. This Sunday we move into Holy Week, looking at the powerful story of Jesus entering into the holy city. We will explore together the beauty and depth of that event was we put it into the broader context of Jesus’ fuller identity. We hope you join us this Sunday as we take up the question, “Who is this?”

16:: It's Not About the Fish! | Jonah 3 | Nick Johnson

01.01.1970 01:00:00 11.03.2024 06:38:45
We’ve probably all been there … you know, one of those conversations where a minor issue is drowning out the larger point. You can feel the frustration building and find yourself wanting to cry out, “It’s not about [insert minor issue], it’s about [insert main point]!” In many ways, that scenario captures what often happens with the book of Jonah. The big fish drowns out the bigger point! As we come to Jonah 3, we’ll see the grace of God on full display… God’s grace toward Jonah, God’s grace toward the Ninevites, and ultimately, God’s grace toward us.

17:: Prayers From the Deep | Jonah 2 | Brian Dagen

01.01.1970 01:00:00 04.03.2024 07:53:32
Jonah is famous for being the individual who spent three days and nights inside the belly of a fish. That part of the story is intriguing, at least to us (maybe less intriguing to Jonah). Part of what gets recorded about Jonah is what he did during his travels while inside the fish. That’s what we see in Jonah 2. Admittedly, in terms of shear excitement, it lacks something compared to the rest of the story, but it is incredibly significant and instructive nonetheless. This Sunday we will continue our foray through the book of Jonah by seeing how he spent his time inside the fish and glean some practical significance for us.

18:: A Pursuing God, A Reticent Prophet | Jonah 1

01.01.1970 01:00:00 26.02.2024 08:17:59
This Sunday we start a four-week series through the book of Jonah. While this is often viewed as a quaint story to tell in children’s Sunday school, the truth is that this is so much more. Jonah’s story powerfully reveals the heart of God and contains surprising insight into human hearts. There are unexpected twists and turns throughout this short story that invite us to examine our own hearts in light of Jonah’s reaction. This book also serves as a great follow-up to our series in Psalms and wonderfully points forward to Easter. This Sunday we will explore Jonah 1 in the form of a panel discussion. Please read through the first chapter of Jonah, taking note especially of what this reveals about the Lord and about Jonah.

19:: The God of Compassion & Justice | Genesis 18:16-33 | Brian Dagen

01.01.1970 01:00:00 29.06.2023 00:08:40
This Sunday we return to our series on the life of Abraham. We left off with Abraham receiving three visitors, one of whom was the Lord Himself appearing in human form (Genesis 18:1-15). In that account, Abraham showed amazing hospitality, part of which included provision of a huge meal. The story continues this week with the guests moving on to pay a visit to Sodom, a city about twenty miles away. The purpose of this visit was not tourism, neither was it to exchange pleasantries. This was a prelude to judgment. We’ll explore this unique text with a specific focus on seeing what this reveals about the nature of the Lord. 20:: The Role of Family | Deut. 6:4-9, Mark 3:31-35 | Brian Dagen

01.01.1970 01:00:00 26.06.2023 06:59:56
This Sunday we will have several families dedicating their babies and/or young children. As a preface to the dedication portion of the service, we will take a look at a bit of what Scripture says about the role of family. Part of this relates to the biological family, but the other part relates to the church as family. We’ll see the significance of both as a prelude to the actual time of dedication. We will resume the sermon series on the life of Abraham on Sunday, July 2. Join us for a message from Pastor Brian Dagen. #cmvchurch #PastorBrianDagen #sundayservice #calvarymissionviejo

21:: Aiming At Faithfulness | 1 Thessalonians 4:11 | Nick Johnson

01.01.1970 01:00:00 19.06.2023 07:45:21
Being a father is awesome! And it can feel overwhelming. Between juggling various responsibilities and roles along with the normal grind of life, dads can live with a sense of constantly falling short of some internal or external standard. But wait, this isn’t just a dad-thing, this is an everybody-thing … we can ALL feel this way. This Sunday, we’ll celebrate dads and father-figures of all stripes. As we open the Bible, we’ll see that God holds in high regard all our daily efforts at faithfulness. While the cultural messaging is often ‘more, better, faster’ – what God calls us to is filled with far more hope, joy, and peace. Oh, and all the men will receive a small gift after the service. Can’t wait for Sunday! Join us for a message from Pastor Nick Johnson. #cmvchurch #PastorNickJohnson

22:: The Power of Hospitality | Genesis 18:1-15 | Brian Dagen

01.01.1970 01:00:00 12.06.2023 06:59:40
For Abraham, it started out like just another day. Work in the morning, then a siesta when the day warmed up. As he was settling in for his extended break, however, some unusual guests arrived. Abraham’s response to them is both striking and instructive. The message brought by one of the visitors was momentous for Abraham and his wife, Sarah. Our text for this week is a fascinating account of the extraordinary breaking into an otherwise very ordinary day. As preparation for Sunday, spend some time reading and reflecting on Genesis 18:1-15 this week. We’ll unpack this section together this Sunday. Join us for a message from Pastor Brian Dagen. #cmvchurch #PastorBrianDagen #sundayservice #calvarymissionviejo

23:: God Unhurried | Genesis 17 | Brian Dagen

01.01.1970 01:00:00 05.06.2023 06:46:32
Abraham was a man of great faith. That faith was, however, cultivated and shaped through significant times of waiting. Waiting on the fulfillment of God’s promises is a recurrent theme in  Abraham’s life. God was faithful to fulfill every promise He ever made to Abraham, just in His timing and in His way. The most personal promise to Abraham was that of descendants. Years went by before this was fulfilled. This Sunday we take a look at the conversation between Abraham and the Lord as the time of fulfillment drew near after many years of waiting in silence. We’ll explore in Genesis 17 the conversation Abraham had with God as the time drew near for the promised son, talking as well about the significance to us. Join us for a message from Pastor Brian Dagen. #cmvchurch #PastorBrianDagen #sundayservice #calvarymissionviejo

24:: Night of Worship | May 2023

01.01.1970 01:00:00 31.05.2023 17:42:08

25:: Waiting Is Hard! | Genesis 16 | Nick Johnson

01.01.1970 01:00:00 29.05.2023 07:17:43
Waiting is hard! We’ve all got a story where, as the saying goes, our haste made waste. We tried to move things along and ended up creating a bigger mess. In Genesis 16, Abram and Sarai get tired of waiting for God’s promise of a child. It’s been 10 years since Abram first received the promise, God seems slow at best and absent at worst, and so they decide to make a move. The only problem is their move isn’t God’s move, and that’s going to create some problems. This Sunday, we’ll read the story and work through Biblical wisdom for our times of waiting. If you ever struggle to wait, this chapter is for you! Join us for a message from Pastor Nick Johnson. #cmvchurch #PastorNickJohnson

26:: Playing the Long Game | Genesis 15 | Brian Dagen

01.01.1970 01:00:00 22.05.2023 06:41:56
After Abram won a convincing victory over the coalition forces that took his nephew Lot, and plenty of others, captive (see Genesis 14), Abram could have been riding high, but there were still plenty of things to cause uncertainty, doubt or fear. Despite God’s promise of many descendants, he and his wife were still waiting for child number one. God had also promised them the land, but it hardly belonged to them since plenty of other people also lived there. Nothing was happening quickly. In the midst of the delayed answers to God’s promises, the Lord once again graciously spoke to Abram in Genesis 15. It’s a fascinating dialogue with unexpected twists and turns. It is that text to which we turn our attention this Sunday. We will explore the specific circumstances with regard to Abram, but also the broader implications for us. We’ll also partake in the Lord’s Supper. Join us for a message from Pastor Brian Dagen. #cmvchurch #PastorBrianDagen #sundayservice #calvarymissionviejo

27:: Who Are You Playing For? | Genesis 14:17-24 | Nick Johnson

01.01.1970 01:00:00 15.05.2023 06:38:11
Ups and downs, wins and losses, peaks, and pits … life is full of them. As difficult as it can be to walk through seasons of pain, the successes that come our way can often be a greater hazard to our faith. Genesis 14 opens with Abram achieving a major win – a strategic nighttime attack, military victory against overwhelming odds, and recovery of people and possessions – it’s the stuff movies are made of! But as the battlefield dust settles, the inward battle for the allegiance of Abram’s heart rages. Victories confront us with the challenge: Who are we playing for? 29:: Crazy, Beautiful Faith | Genesis 14:1-16 | Brian Dagen

01.01.1970 01:00:00 08.05.2023 06:29:20
There’s no denying it… some Bible texts can appear as nothing more than ancient accounts of events that have lots of obscure details and names impossible to pronounce. That might be the first impression of one reading Genesis 14. It contains the account of an ancient battle involving kings long forgotten to history, with Abraham riding to the rescue. What can a story like this have to speak to people living in 2023? Surprisingly, a fair bit. As preparation for Sunday, take the time to read Genesis 14. Don’t get bogged down on the obscure names. Read through the account and take notice of elements that speak to you in some way. We will explore this together on Sunday morning. Join us for a message from Pastor Brian Dagen. #cmvchurch #PastorBrianDagen #sundayservice #calvarymissionviejo

30:: A Refreshed Perspective | Genesis 13 | Family Sunday

01.01.1970 01:00:00 01.05.2023 06:47:18
The last portion of Genesis 12 does not depict Abraham at his finest. In Egypt, he tells a half-truth (a lie) to protect himself. He gets found out and told by Pharaoh to leave. In Genesis 13, we see Abraham responding to a relational issue with Lot in a way befitting a follower of Yahweh. In this instance, Abraham takes the moral high road. We’ll dive into the specifics of that chapter in a panel discussion this Sunday. Come at 9:30 am for breakfast before the service starts at 10:15 am. Prior to that, spend some time reading and reflecting on Abraham’s choices depicted in Genesis 13. As a reminder, come at 9:30 am for breakfast. #cmvchurch

31:: Oh, Abraham! | Genesis12:4-20 | Nick Johnson

01.01.1970 01:00:00 24.04.2023 06:41:07
If you watched a highlight reel of your life, undoubtedly, there are going to be some “oh, yah!” and “oh, no” moments. There are times when you hit the metaphorical home run, and then there are times when you fumbled, tripped on your shoelace, and said something you shouldn’t have right before your face hit the turf. This weekend, we’re continuing our series on the life of Abraham. We’re going to see that no one – not even Abraham! – always hits it out of the park. Genesis 12 will encourage us to place our hope in God’s faithfulness, drop any pretense of perfection with one another, and aim toward mutual encouragement in the ups and downs of life. Join us for a message from Pastor Nick Johnson. #cmvchurch #PastorNickJohnson

32:: A Calling Greater Than Our Past | Genesis 11:27-12:3 | Brian Dagen

01.01.1970 01:00:00 17.04.2023 06:37:28
Starting this Sunday, we rewind the biblical tapes a long way back as we start a sermon series on the life of Abraham. Over the next few months we will see how Abraham lived a life of amazing, albeit very flawed, faith. This Sunday we dive into the beginning of his story as revealed in the Bible. In particular we will look at where Abraham came from, not only geographically, but also religiously. We’ll see amazing realities in God’s calling of Abraham, but also the cost of obedience to Abraham in receiving the promised blessings of the Lord. Join us for a message from Pastor Brian Dagen. #cmvchurch #PastorBrianDagen #sundayservice #calvarymissionviejo

33:: Truly Finished | Luke 24:1-12 | Pastor Brian

01.01.1970 01:00:00 10.04.2023 06:38:34
Given the fact that this Sunday is Easter, we will be exploring the account of Jesus’ resurrection, in particular digging into the question of why the resurrection account is still treasured and celebrated in so many countries around the world two millennia after that particular day. What makes that day, that event, so significant to all of humanity throughout history and across all cultures? What separates Resurrection Sunday from all other holidays in terms of significance? Why is it so much more than just remembering a significant event from the past? We’ll explore all that and more in the context of the day in which we remember Jesus raised from the dead. #cmvchurch #PastorBrianDagen #sundayservice #calvarymissionviejo #eastersunday
