You’ve been in this spot any number of times … a pitch for a product or service is being made, you like a lot of what you hear, but when it comes down to signing the papers or paying the money, you aren’t quite ready to take that step.
As Jesus rounds the corner of the Sermon on the Mount, He begins to press His hearers to make a choice. It wouldn’t be too difficult to imagine the crowds on that Galilean hillside liked a lot of what they heard. But now, in effect, Jesus asks: “Who do you say that I am?” (Matt. 16:15). In other words, what are you going to do with what you’ve heard? It’s a question the crowds must answer, and it’s a question we must answer.
