I have tried to have a small garden in years past. Let’s just say it could have gone better. But for those of you who raise a garden every year or who have some experience farming, what is the hardest part of the process, mentally and emotionally, if not physically? I would guess it is the time spent waiting for the crops to grow and caring for the crops before harvest time. But that time is necessary. There is no harvest without the time of waiting and watering. Patience is the key. But patience does not come naturally in evangelism. If we believe in the task, and if we take evangelism seriously, we want to be effective. We desire and look for conversions and growth. But it is important to remember that even though we are responsible for sowing the seed, growth and fruitfulness is God’s work, not ours. I believe the Lord used a short book by the same name that I read to lead me to do this message series. I am also working hard to make this a practical series where you can take the things we talk about and apply them during the week. It’s my hope and prayer that God uses these messages to equip and challenge you to live more evangelistically, sharing the gospel with those you interact with. Last week, I started by asking if you had ever been given an assignment, but you didn’t know how to complete it. And I acknowledged that we talk a lot about sharing the gospel, but that we might not be clear about exactly what the gospel is. So we spent some time describing what the gospel is so that we can more effectively share the gospel with others. Today, I want to expand on that thought. I want to move from describing what the gospel is to offering specific suggestions on some ways to actually share the gospel. Before we get into that, I want to read from God’s word. I want to read several short passages as we start. We are going to read from each of the four gospels and from the book of Acts. Why those passages? Each of them is an iteration of what we call The Great Commission. This message was recorded during the public Worship Gathering at New Beginnings in Bryan, Texas, on Sunday, June 16, 2024. In the television show The Office, there is an episode where the manager asks one of his salesmen for a rundown of his clients. Instead of asking what he means by a rundown, the salesman spends the episode asking others in the office what it might be, and being confused overall about what a rundown is. The manager assumes the salesman knows what he wants, but the salesman doesn’t know and won’t ask. I mentioned this last week, but I want to get into it today. Pastors and churches spend a lot of time talking about how we believe in the gospel. We are called to share the gospel. There is life in the gospel. We talk about the good news of the gospel. In fact, we talk a lot about the gospel, but we don’t talk much about what we mean by the gospel. One of the things we have been doing to try to encourage this is giving you an opportunity to share an opportunity you have had to have spiritual conversations, share the gospel, or just invite someone to church. I am not talking about an evangelistic campaign, although there is a place for that. I am not talking about street preaching, although if God is leading you to do that, you need to obey him. I am not talking about setting up a dedicated organization devoted to an evangelistic ministry, although if you believe that is God’s direction for your life, I want us to talk more about that. I am talking about sharing the gospel, day by day. In praying about this and thinking about this, I came to a realization, and I think this is important. While I have tried to encourage you to share the gospel, I have talked about the “why” a little bit but haven’t talked about the “how” much at all. And shame on me for that. This is why we are going to spend the month of June on this subject of Evangelistic Living. This is the thing Jesus commissioned us to. As followers of Jesus, this is who we are. So, let’s get into this. This message was recorded during the public Worship Gathering at New Beginnings in Bryan, Texas, on Sunday, June 2, 2024. This is the last message in the series taken from the life of Abraham. In some ways, I feel like I have come to know him as a friend. In today's text, Abraham passes from the scene and another generation will continue the race. As we wrap up our study of the life of Abraham, I would like to review his life and look at what made him such a great man. What is the secret of his enormous influence that persists across the centuries? I think there are four obvious answers to that question. There on the counter was a candy jar. The little boy stood mesmerized, looking up at the jar filled with all that candy. The owner smiled as he watched. He gently asked the boy, “Do you want some of this candy?” The boy nodded, and the manager said, “Well, go ahead and stick your hand in the jar and take a handful.” But the boy just stood there and didn’t move. Again, the owner said, “Go ahead. It’s OK. Just reach in and get a handful of candy.” But the boy continued to just stand there and stare at the jar. Finally, the owner reached into the jar and pulled out some of the candy and gave it to the boy who filled his pockets. When they got outside the mother asked him, “Why didn’t you take that handful of candy when the man told you it was O.K.?” The boy smiled and said, “Because his hands are bigger than mine”. He knew if he put his hand in the jar he wouldn’t get nearly as much candy as when the owner did it for him. So, he waited for the owner to provide for him! Because, if the owner provided for him, he’d get more than he would have gotten by himself. In Genesis 22, we see Abraham learn that very lesson. This is the well-known story of God’s command to sacrifice Isaac on Mount Moriah. I am aware of and understand how this is a picture of God the Father sending God the Son to be sacrificed for us. I realize the importance of this story and how it is a metaphor for the crucifixion. But I want to focus on something else in the text today. But most of our lives are spent neither on the mountain nor in the valley. Sometimes when you read the Bible, you get the feeling that God majors in the spectacular. But the problem is, most of us don’t live in the realm of the spectacular. We live with the daily, ordinary routines that characterize the greater part of our lives: getting ready for the day, going to work or school, shopping for groceries, paying bills, mowing lawns, and maintaining the household. I think all of us have been down that road before. The old Scottish preacher George Morrison said, “The Christian life is a land of hills and valleys.” Solomon expressed the same thought in Ecclesiastes when he said that there is “a time to weep and a time to laugh.” Every hill also has a valley beside it. This is particularly true of family life because the people closest to us can also bring us both joy and sorrow. Our homes can be happy one day and very sad the next. Things change so quickly. In our study of the life of Abraham, we have come to an event that should have brought only joy to Abraham and Sarah. But while the birth of Isaac brought joy, it also brought its share of pain and sorrow. Our text contains two parts—the birth of Isaac (vv. 1-7) and the expulsion of Ishmael (vv. 8-21). Each one has valuable lessons for all of us to consider. This message was recorded during the public Worship Gathering at New Beginnings in Bryan, Texas, on Sunday, April 14, 2024. In the second message in the series, we looked at Genesis 12, which included the story of Abraham and Sarah going down to Egypt to escape a famine. There are a lot of details about Jesus’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem that we could point out and break down and analyze, but I want to spend just a few minutes on this one detail that has sort of captured my imagination this week. As I was studying this week, I ran across a statement from an ophthalmologist who shared that it is a medical truth that crying is part of an important release valve in many people. Crying may even be a chemical release for emotional stress. He said that tears actually release a chemical that helps relieve stress. This is why we often feel better after we cry. Tears have a medicinal effect. Sweat pours out of the body on a hot day to keep the body cool. Tears flow to release the stress of the soul like the sweat of the body. But today isn’t about our tears. There are plenty of lessons we could draw from her about this, but today is about Jesus’s tears. It is not about our weeping; it is about Jesus’s weeping. As I thought about Jesus’s weeping, two thoughts came to me. The first is that Jesus weeps with us in our sorrow. The second is that Jesus weeps for us in our sin. A sad and troubling, but very interesting article came across my email this week. According to a newly released study from Gallup, "LGBTQ+ identification in the U.S. continues to grow, with 7.6% of U.S. adults now identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or some other sexual orientation besides heterosexual. The current figure is up from 5.6% four years ago and 3.5% in 2012, Gallup’s first year of measuring sexual orientation and transgender identity." Those numbers weren’t particularly shocking to me. Just look at the popular culture and media climate, and these are somewhat believable numbers. Here’s the part that was most interesting to me. "Increases in LGBTQ+ identification in recent years have occurred as members of Generation Z and the millennial generation have entered adulthood. Adults in these younger generations are far more likely than those in older generations to identify as LGBTQ+. Overall, each younger generation is about twice as likely as the generation that preceded it to identify as LGBTQ+. More than one in five Gen Z adults, ranging in age from 18 to 26 in 2023, identify as LGBTQ+, as do nearly one in 10 millennials (aged 27 to 42). The percentage drops to less than 5% of Generation X, 2% of baby boomers and 1% of the Silent Generation.” While these numbers are on the rise in the U.S., if you look at the scope of world history and the ebbs and flows of culture, it seems to me that particular cultural patterns and sinful traits appear to rise and fall over time. So if you think this is a particularly modern or American sin pattern, let’s correct that thinking by looking at Genesis 19 today, where we find one of the most dramatic stories in all the Bible: the destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. 1:: To Wait and Water (Week 4)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 23.06.2024 · 20:06:26 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· I’m not a gardener, and I’m certainly not a farmer. 2:: To Sow and Scatter (Week 3)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 16.06.2024 · 20:48:25 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· We are in week three out of five of our series Evangelistic Living. This message was recorded during the public Worship Gathering at New Beginnings in Bryan, Texas, on Sunday, June 16, 2024. 3:: The Right Seed (Week 2)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 10.06.2024 · 22:19:48 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· Have you ever been given an assignment, but you didn’t know how to complete it? 4:: Evangelistic Living (Week 1)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 03.06.2024 · 14:33:58 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· At the beginning of the year, I mentioned that something I have been convicted about is the need to share the gospel and the need for us as a church and for us as individual followers of Jesus to share the gospel. This message was recorded during the public Worship Gathering at New Beginnings in Bryan, Texas, on Sunday, June 2, 2024. 5:: Abraham: A Retrospective (Genesis 25:1-11) - Abraham

··· ··· ··· ··· While some of us will be glad, others of us will miss him. 8:: Baby Dedication Service (Elsie Collier)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 05.05.2024 · 20:16:07 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· Many of us have seen or participated in a baby dedication service at church. But to help us understand more about what we are doing and why we are doing it, Pastor John Collier answers two questions: 1) What is a baby dedication service? and 2) What is a baby dedication service NOT? We will then look at four aspects of giving our children back to God, taken from Genesis 22. 9:: Jehovah-Jireh (Genesis 22:1-24) - Abraham

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 28.04.2024 · 21:46:16 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· There is an old story about a boy and his mother who had gone to the corner drug store to buy a few items. 10:: God of the Ordinary (Genesis 21:22-34) - Abraham

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 21.04.2024 · 23:14:20 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· There is an old saying that reminds us that the God on the mountain is still God in the valley. Sometimes we may wonder, “How does God fit in with the ordinary?” This message was recorded during the public Worship Gathering at New Beginnings in Bryan, Texas, on Sunday, April 21, 2024. 11:: Isaac & Ishmael (Genesis 21:1-21) - Abraham

··· ··· ··· ··· Have you ever wanted something so desperately and waited a long time for it to happen, only to discover that when it did, things didn’t work out the way you thought they would? ··· ··· ··· ··· We don’t know if he actually said it or not, but there is an old quote that is attributed to Mark Twain that goes something like this: “History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes.” If you have been here for this series through the life of Abraham, you will recognize certain elements from the passage today. In the second message in the series, we looked at Genesis 12, which included the story of Abraham and Sarah going down to Egypt to escape a famine. When they arrived, Abraham claimed Sarah as his sister rather than his wife to protect himself. Well, he does it again in Chapter 20 today. 16:: Intercession (Genesis 18:16-33) - Abraham

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 10.03.2024 · 22:14:53 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· In the Middle Ages in Europe, people had a strong belief in the power of prayer. They also believed that the purer and simpler the life you led, the more God would listen to you. And since Monks were supposed to live purer and simpler lives than anyone else, their prayers were often seen as a direct line to God. So, rich people and warriors began to pay the monks to do all the praying they were too busy to do for themselves. Now, the Middle Ages were times of great conflict. Lots of wars, lots of soldiers killed on the fields of battle. And at the time, the Catholic church was conflicted about the command “Thou shalt not kill.” They felt that that commandment also applied to killing in war. So, for example, after the Battle of Hastings the Catholic church demanded that each soldier do 120 days of penance for every person they killed. William the Conqueror was responsible for the death of about 10,000 people. That meant he was required to do 1.2 million days of penance, meaning he’d have to pray for about 3300 years to cleanse his soul. His penance would have lasted to the year 4366. So, he figured if the work was split up amongst a couple hundred monks, he could have his soul cleansed in less than 18 years. So, he established a string of Abbeys where monks could pray specifically for his soul. Now, not only was that practice not Biblical… it was just plain silly! God doesn’t work like that, and prayer doesn’t work like that. But people have had odd opinions about prayer for centuries. And that’s what happens when you don’t pay attention to Scripture; you create all kinds of weird theologies. That’s why the prayers we find in Scripture – like the one Abraham prayed here – are so important. God was showcasing Abraham’s prayer so we could see how intercession works. 17:: Dinner Guests (Genesis 18:1-15) - Abraham

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 04.03.2024 · 09:58:25 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· In 1934, one of the most famous evangelists of his day came to Charlotte, North Carolina. His name was Mordecai Ham, and through his preaching he had led tens of thousands to faith in Christ. But on this particular night only six people came forward at the invitation and Mr. Ham left thinking the service had been a failure. But one of those six was a young man named William Franklin Graham. You just never know what God is going to do. There are things we see as small or insignificant or even as a failure that God intends to use for his glory and to establish and build his kingdom. We have seen this over and over in the life of Abraham. I think we see it again in today’s passage. 18:: Impossible (Genesis 17:1-27) - Abraham

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 26.02.2024 · 04:45:13 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· Hudson Taylor, pioneer missionary to China, said these words: “There are three stages to every great work of God; first it is impossible, then it is difficult, then it is done.” I think most things in God’s work get started like this. When God wants to do something big, he often starts with something small. When he wants to do the miraculous, he often starts with the impossible. After all, when he sent his son to the world, he didn’t send him to New York or London or Rome or even to Jerusalem. He sent him to the tiny village of Bethlehem. God loves to start small because then he can show his power in a mighty way. God starts with the impossible and then turns it into reality. That’s Abraham’s life story. God found him living as a pagan in Ur of the Chaldees. He was 75 years old and had no children. God promised him that he would have so many descendants that they would be like the stars in the sky and the dust on the ground. No one would be able to count them all. It appears Abraham was going through another period of doubt, so God came to him once again to reinforce the covenant. He also further clarified the covenant. 19:: A Bad Idea (Genesis 16:1-16) - Abraham

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 19.02.2024 · 04:59:18 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· Have you ever done something that seemed like a good idea at the time, but looking back you realize it was a bad idea? Maybe it was a really bad idea. Last week we saw the incredible vision Abraham had of a torch and a smoking firepot which accompanied God's dramatic promise that Abraham would bear a son. As we turn to chapter 16, we move from the sublime to the ridiculous. This is one of the all-time bad ideas. In this message, Pastor John Collier shares some lessons we can learn from this narrative. 20:: Teach Me Your Paths (Psalm 25)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 28.06.2023 · 22:22:28 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· As you read Psalm 25, you will notice there are a number of different themes. On the one hand, David is praying for deliverance from his trouble and distress. He’s also asking for forgiveness and pardon for his sins. But a dominant theme in the psalm is the request for guidance, as he asks the Lord to show him his ways and to lead him in his paths and teach him the truth. Pastor John Collier takes that theme of guidance and uses is as the lens through which to read this psalm, and then some of the other themes come in as well. There are five directions or instructions that Psalm 25 gives us in thinking about how God guides us as his children. 21:: A Thankful Heart (Psalm 138)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 19.06.2023 · 20:13:43 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· What are you thankful to God for? Michael Guido, author of “Seeds from the Sower,” in his sermon on Psalm 138, mentioned the importance of expressing thanksgiving in praise. he states: "Paganism has its prayers, but not any praise. It has teaching, but not any thanksgiving. Sometimes unthinking Christians express no thanksgiving. But praising, like praying, should be a habit." Psalm 138 was written by David. And like so many of the Psalms, we don’t know the exact circumstances of its writing. But what we do know is that it clearly is a psalm of praise, a psalm of thanksgiving. And in this case, David’s praise came from a thankful heart. If we really want to be thankful people, we must have a thankful heart. So, ask yourself the question: How can I express a thankful heart to God? This message was recorded during the public Worship Gathering at New Beginnings in Bryan, Texas, on Sunday, June 18, 2023. 23:: Peace in Your Problems (Psalm 4)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 04.06.2023 · 22:18:24 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· In Psalm 4, David experiences problems. We don’t know exactly what the problem is. If you look back at Psalm 3, the problem David faces is identified. It has to do with the rebellion of his son Absalom. It’s possible this is the same problem, but it’s not likely. But we can be sure that David’s problems involve people. Over the course of the Psalm, David moves from a place of distress to peace. And it’s not that his problems are solved. David is able to find peace while still facing his problems. I think that’s a fair way to sum up Psalm 4: Peace in your problems. How does David find peace in his problems? He does two things. First, he speaks to God. Second, he speaks to the people involved. He speaks to the mean, the mad, and the sad. And over the course of the Psalm, he transitions from a place of distress to a place of peace. 27:: Ezra: Return and Restore - Week 15 (Ezra 10:1-44)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 07.05.2023 · 13:30:10 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· Today we finish our study of the Old Testament book of Ezra. Last week we saw the group of exiles had returned to Jerusalem and Ezra had been informed about the sin many of them had committed, including many of their leaders. Do you remember what that sin was? It was that they had taken pagan women who worshiped the false gods as their wives. Whatever their motives, this was in direct violation of God’s clear command not to do this. We spent our time looking at Ezra’s response to their sin as an example of how we should respond to sin, whether in our own lives or in the lives of other believers. Part of that godly response to sin is repentance. How do you know when someone is repentant? If I have sinned against you, and have apologized for it, how do you know if I really mean it? In his helpful little book Church Discipline, Jonathan Leeman offers some guidance: "A few verses before Jesus’ instruction in Matthew 18 about church discipline, he provides us with help for determining whether an individual is characteristically repentant: would the person be willing to cut off a hand or tear out an eye rather than repeat the sin (Matt. 18:8-9)? That is to say, is he or she willing to do whatever it takes to fight against the sin? Repenting people, typically, are zealous about casting off their sin. That’s what God’s Spirit does inside of them. When this happens, one can expect to see a willingness to accept outside counsel. A willingness to inconvenience their schedules. A willingness to confess embarrassing things. A willingness to make financial sacrifices or lose friends or end relationships." (p. 72) Our text for today is Ezra 10, and we will read the entire chapter, but before we do that, I want to offer a definition or description of genuine repentance. There are several ways we could describe or define repentance, but this one is simple and straight to the point. Genuine repentance involves heartfelt sorrow before God for our sins and prompt action to correct them. 28:: Ezra: Return and Restore - Week 14 (Ezra 9:1-15)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 23.04.2023 · 23:30:24 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· How should we react to sin in our own lives or in the lives of other professed Christians? It seems to me that in our current permissive culture and society, even in the church we have grown so used to sin that it doesn’t really shock us anymore. In his autobiography, Charles Spurgeon warned his fellow pastors of the danger of dealing with sin and sinners professionally, lest we lose our dread of evil. The things that used to shock us become regular and routine. Because we become so desensitized toward sin, we fail to have the proper response toward it, whether it is our own sin, or sin in others. We minimize it, justify it, or ignore it and go on our way unaffected by it. Perhaps even worse, if we see someone reacting in a godly way toward sin, we think they are being extreme or intolerant or judgmental. 29:: Ezra: Return and Restore - Week 13 (Ezra 8:21-36)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 18.04.2023 · 00:18:21 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· Sir John Franklin was an explorer and an officer in the British Royal Navy in the first half of the 1800s. In 1845, he left England on his third and final expedition. His mission was to finally make it through the Northwest Passage. This was thought to be a possible shipping route connecting the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean by going around the Canadian Artic. This expedition turned out to be an unmitigated failure. We have been studying the book of Ezra, and an important part of the story is the journey the people have taken as they have left Babylon to return to Jerusalem. Zerubbabel led the first wave of about 50,000 exiles on the journey back. Now, another generation is being led by Ezra. This group is about 5,000. One of the things we have done along the way is to try to learn lessons from the book of Ezra about our journey from sin and the things of this world, represented by Babylon, to the kingdom of God and our focus on the things of God, represented by Jerusalem. Just like those sailors on that expedition knew they would face difficulties and hardships, and just like the exiles returning with Ezra knew they would face difficulties and hardships, we know we will face difficulties and hardships. Not all of the Christian life is like that, of course. But we live in a world that is broken and fallen and that the Bible describes as being under the power of the evil one. That expedition failed because they were not prepared. We will fail in the mission God has called us to if we are not prepared. ··· ··· ··· ··· On December 17, 1903, when Orville and Wilbur Wright finally succeeded in keeping their homemade airplane in the air for 59 seconds and 852 feet at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, they rushed a telegram to their sister in Dayton, Ohio, telling of this great accomplishment. It read: “First sustained flight today 59 seconds. Hope to be home by Xmas.” The sister was so excited that she rushed to the newspaper office and gave the telegram to the editor. The next morning the headline stated, “Popular local bicycle merchants to be home for the holidays.” The editor botched the scoop of the century because he missed the point. But, despite the perspective of two thousand years of history, there are many people who view the resurrection of Jesus Christ just like that editor viewed the Wright brothers’ first flight. They just don’t give much thought to it. Even though it is the most significant event in the history of the world, they go on about life, focusing instead on trips home for the holidays and other largely inconsequential matters. They just don’t get it. This message was recorded during the public Worship Gathering at New Beginnings in Bryan, Texas, on Sunday, April 9, 2023. ··· ··· ··· ··· There is an old quote with several different versions that have been attributed to many people over the years. My favorite version of the quote is from the late Robin Williams. He said, “Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.” He was right. We all face problems. All of us. About 15 years ago, Ruth Graham, daughter of Billy and Ruth Graham, wrote a book titled "In Every Pew Sits a Broken Heart". Facing problems and difficulty is simply a fact of life in a fallen world. It is true for all of us, and it was true for Ezra. Today, we are going to look at a specific problem Ezra faced and how he worked through the problem and try to learn some lessons about working through the problems we face. ··· ··· ··· ··· As we come to Ezra 8, we find ourselves with another list of names. There is a lot of overlap with the list we had earlier in Ezra 2. The list in Ezra 2 was a list of those who came back from Babylon to Jerusalem in the first wave with Zerubbabel. The list in today’s passage in Ezra 8 is a list of the ones who came back in the second wave with Ezra. The second wave came about 80 years after the first. ··· ··· ··· ··· There are a number of men in Scripture whom God blessed: Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, and David are prominent examples. But Ezra is also a man whom God blessed, even though he is not so well known as the others. The exiles that had returned to Israel during that first wave were either dead or very old by now. They had settled into the land and, as we will see in coming weeks, in many cases had begun to blend together with the unbelievers of the land. The walls of Jerusalem had not been rebuilt, leaving the city vulnerable to attack. God raised up Ezra to bring spiritual reform to His people. But how could he accomplish this overwhelming task? The answer occurs in a phrase that first occurs three times in our chapter, and then three more times in the rest of Ezra: God’s hand was on him. God’s hand is another way of saying God’s blessing. God blessed Ezra and his work. If we want His blessing or hand to rest on us, then we need to study the lives of men like Ezra. ··· ··· ··· ··· If you are not familiar with the story of Dwight Moody, you really should read about him. There are a number of good quotes attributed to Dwight Moody, but perhaps the most well-known is this: "The world has yet to see what God can do with a man fully consecrated to him. By God’s help, I aim to be that man." As we make our way back into the book of Ezra, we finally meet the man for whom the book is named. And as we meet him, we learn some important things about him. The most important is the two-sided coin of Ezra’s commitment to God and to God’s word. And because of this commitment, Ezra was able to have a real impact on the people. I believe if we want to have a significant impact on our community, we have to start with a serious commitment to God and to God’s word. God’s word has to work its way into every part of our being and every aspect of our lives. God’s word is his revelation of himself to us. Without his word, we cannot truly know God. And without the preaching and teaching of his word, others cannot truly know him.
