If you are not familiar with the story of Dwight Moody, you really should read about him. There are a number of good quotes attributed to Dwight Moody, but perhaps the most well-known is this: "The world has yet to see what God can do with a man fully consecrated to him. By God’s help, I aim to be that man." As we make our way back into the book of Ezra, we finally meet the man for whom the book is named. And as we meet him, we learn some important things about him. The most important is the two-sided coin of Ezra’s commitment to God and to God’s word. And because of this commitment, Ezra was able to have a real impact on the people. I believe if we want to have a significant impact on our community, we have to start with a serious commitment to God and to God’s word. God’s word has to work its way into every part of our being and every aspect of our lives. God’s word is his revelation of himself to us. Without his word, we cannot truly know God. And without the preaching and teaching of his word, others cannot truly know him.
