I’m not a gardener, and I’m certainly not a farmer. I have tried to have a small garden in years past. Let’s just say it could have gone better. But for those of you who raise a garden every year or who have some experience farming, what is the hardest part of the process, mentally and emotionally, if not physically? I would guess it is the time spent waiting for the crops to grow and caring for the crops before harvest time. But that time is necessary. There is no harvest without the time of waiting and watering.
Patience is the key. But patience does not come naturally in evangelism. If we believe in the task, and if we take evangelism seriously, we want to be effective. We desire and look for conversions and growth. But it is important to remember that even though we are responsible for sowing the seed, growth and fruitfulness is God’s work, not ours.
