media:description>The head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency will visit the FEMA disaster recovery center in Charlotte on Monday. FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell is expected to speak to reporters about the ongoing recovery in North Carolina from Helene.
Since the storm in late September, FEMA has provided more than $203 million to assist survivors in at least 122,000 North Carolina households, according to the federal government. The aid has gone toward home repairs, replacing personal items, debris removal, shelter operators, food and water.
About 2,800 FEMA personnel are in North Carolina, according to the agency. More than 400 of those personnel work at disaster recovery sites, such as the one Criswell visited in Charlotte on Monday.

media:description>Tonia Cook, a former corrections officer with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, spoke out about concerns with the department following a scathing resignation letter from Chief Deputy Kevin Canty.
âI wanted to make a difference to be honest with you," Cook said. "There were a lot of assaults on officers. We were short-staffed and very short-staffed. A lot of the officers jumped ship because of the atmosphere.â
She said the sheriff's office has a culture of fear with Sheriff Garry McFadden at the helm. Cook worked with the sheriff's office for eight years.

media:description>The man accused of killing his wife with eye drops is expected back in court on Monday.
Joshua Hunsucker, a former paramedic, was charged with killing his wife by poisoning her with eye drops back in 2018. He was indicted in August on numerous charges, including four counts of witness intimidation and obstruction of justice.
In August, the court allowed him to postpone a bond hearing. He agreed to stay behind bars until the hearing, now scheduled for Monday, Nov. 4.

media:description>In what might be his final day ever of campaigning for the White House, Former President Donald Trump is hitting the South, Northeast, and Midwest in a last-minute swing-state push for votes. Trump is making four stops in three key states in a bid to shore up support.
Among the states hit by Trump on Monday was North Carolina, where he spoke to a large crowd of supporters in Raleigh. He will arrive home in Florida early on Election Day to watch results come in as he faces Vice President Kamala Harris. #Politics #News #Trump
Kamala Harris is spending Monday in Pennsylvania, whose 19 electoral votes offer the largest prize among the states expected to determine the Electoral College outcome. The vice president and Democratic nominee will visit working-class areas, including Allentown, and end with a late-night Philadelphia rally that includes Lady Gaga and Oprah Winfrey.
Donald Trump has four rallies in three states, beginning in Raleigh, North Carolina and stopping twice in Pennsylvania with events in Reading and Pittsburgh, both areas Harris is also visiting Monday. The Republican nominee and former president ends his campaign the way he ended the first two, with a late Monday night event in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

media:description>The North Carolina State Board of Elections is hosting a news conference to answer questions about the 2024 election procedures. Karen Brinson Bell, the executive director of the State Board of Elections, is joined by general counsel Paul Cox and other state officials to answer questions about how the state is preparing for Election Day.
North Carolina has set a new record for early voting, with over half of registered voters statewide casting a ballot in the 2024 election, the State Board of Elections announced on Friday.
As of 2 p.m. Friday, more than 3.7 million voters cast ballots in person during the early voting period that began on Oct. 17. The number beats the previous record of 3,629,000 ballots cast early in 2020. Nationwide, over 59 million people have voted in the election so far.
"This is really good news for North Carolina," Karen Brinson Bell, the executive director of the State Board of Elections said. "For the eligible North Carolinians who haven't voted yet, you still have time to make your voice heard."
Early voting has become the most popular option in North Carolina lately. In 2020, 65% of voters used the early voting period to cast their ballots, the SBE said. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Recent polling shows a dead heat between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump in North Carolina. Trump carried the state in 2016 and 2020, but his margin of victory shrank from 3% in 2016 to 1% in 2020. Both candidates have visited the state several times in recent weeks, with Trump and Harris each hosting rallies in the Charlotte area on Saturday to encourage supporters on the final day of early voting. #ncpol #News #Politics

media:description>The North Carolina State Superintendent race continues to be one of the most anticipated of the election season, and the two people running to lead the state's Department of Public Instruction are Mo Green and Michele Morrow.
Back in September, it was announced that North Carolinaâs public school students made small performance gains on standardized tests during the past school year. The proficiency levels are inching closer to percentages reached before the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered classrooms and led to remote learning.

media:description>Nov. 5 will be the final chance for South Carolinians to cast their ballots for the U.S. presidential race and several other state and federal offices. But before you head to the polls, here is what you need to know to vote on Nov. 5.
First, it's too late to register to vote in the 2024 General Election. South Carolina law requires residents to register at least 30 days before the election.
