20:: "Vivekananda's Perspective on the women's : Insights and Analysis"

01.01.1970 01:00:00 21.05.2023 13:30:07
Swami Vivekananda's views on women have been criticized as regressive. While he advocated for women's education and empowerment, he also held some views that are seen as patriarchal and outdated by contemporary standards. For example, he believed that a woman's primary duty was to serve her husband and family, and that women were more emotional and less rational than men. He also believed that women's spiritual progress could be hindered by their menstrual cycles. These views have been criticized by some modern feminists and women's rights advocates. However, it is also important to note that Vivekananda's views on women were shaped by the cultural and social norms of his time, and that he may have held more progressive views than many of his contemporaries. There are some writings of Swami Vivekananda that have been criticized for being regressive towards women. For example: In his book "The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda", Volume 3, he wrote, "It is not possible for a bird to fly on only one wing, and so a household cannot be maintained by a woman alone. She requires the assistance of a man." This statement has been criticized as perpetuating the idea that women are dependent on men. In a letter to a disciple, he wrote, "The best way to serve your motherland is to marry and have children, and bring them up well." This statement has been criticized as limiting the role of women to that of wife and mother, and not acknowledging the potential for women to contribute to society in other ways. In his lecture on "The Ideal of a Universal Religion", he stated, "I do not believe in a God or religion which cannot wipe the widow's tears or bring a piece of bread to the orphan's mouth." While this statement may seem progressive, it has been criticized for implying that women are inherently dependent and helpless, and need a male figure to provide for them. Another example of Vivekananda's views on women can be found in his letter to Sister Christine, a Christian missionary in India. In the letter, he wrote, "I believe that the Hindu religion is the only one of the world's great faiths dedicated to the celebration of womanhood." However, he also wrote that women should be "the embodiment of modesty, purity, and self-sacrifice," which some have interpreted as limiting the role of women in society. Additionally, Vivekananda spoke about the importance of celibacy for spiritual development, which some have argued reinforces a gendered hierarchy and oppression of women. Swami Vivekananda's views on women have been a subject of criticism by some feminists and scholars. For example, in his lectures and writings, Vivekananda often described women as passive, emotional, and inferior to men in intellect. He also believed that women should not be involved in public life and that their primary role was to be homemakers and mothers. In a lecture delivered in London in 1896, Vivekananda stated that "man is the active principle, woman the passive; man is the maker of the world, woman the preserver of the world; man is the brain, woman the heart." He also believed that women's education should be limited to domestic duties and that their "moral and spiritual training" should be the responsibility of men. Furthermore, Vivekananda's views on women were influenced by his belief in the concept of "purity" and the idea that women's bodies were a source of impurity. In a letter to a disciple, he wrote, "There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved. It is not possible for a bird to fly on one wing... The rights of women are a very difficult problem. There are only two solutions: either to treat them as slaves or to treat them as gods. I prefer the latter." Swami Vivekananda's views on certain issues, such as caste and women, have been criticized as regressive and incompatible with modern values of equality and social justice. For example, his advocacy for the caste system as a means of division of labor and social order is not compatible with the idea of equal opportunity and freedom of choice for individuals. Similarly, his views on women as primarily responsible for domestic duties and inferior to men in certain respects are not in line with modern ideas of gender equality.

Swami Vivekananda's views on caste are a complex and debated topic, and different interpretations exist. Some argue that he was progressive in his rejection of the discriminatory aspects of the caste system, while others contend that his views on caste were regressive in other ways. One example of Vivekananda's views on caste that some critics view as regressive is his emphasis on the concept of varna, which is the traditional Hindu division of society into four social classes. In his book "The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda," he argues that varna is not based on birth, but on one's inherent qualities and actions. However, some critics argue that Vivekananda's emphasis on varna perpetuates the caste system, as it maintains the idea of social hierarchy and the notion that certain occupations are reserved for certain groups. Another example of Vivekananda's views on caste that some consider regressive is his belief in the spiritual superiority of the Brahmin caste. In his lectures and writings, Vivekananda often praised the intellectual and spiritual qualities of Brahmins and argued that they were the natural leaders of society. Critics argue that this belief perpetuates caste-based discrimination and reinforces the idea of social hierarchy. However, it's important to note that Vivekananda's views on caste were not monolithic and evolved over time. Some argue that he became more progressive in his later years, particularly after his travels to the West and interactions with people from different backgrounds. In his book "Selected Works of Swami Vivekananda", there are some passages where he talks about caste in a way that can be seen as regressive. For example: "Caste is a very good thing. Caste is the plan we want to follow. What caste really is, not one in a million understands. There is no country in the world without caste." "You cannot efface caste. That is a fact. Every Hindu knows that he is a caste-man. I am a caste-man. I have no words to express my sympathy for those who are downtrodden. But if the organisation of society is the cause of their downtroddenness, let us try to readjust the organisation. The Hindu religion does not bar any progress." "The only service to be done for our lower classes is to give them education, to develop their lost individuality. The highest service is to teach them to be independent of this beggarly Indian life, to learn to stand on their own feet, and to be self-reliant." (from a lecture in Madras, 1897) "I am a convinced universalist. I am ready to accept any religion as true from the bottom of my heart. I am also convinced that those who sneer at Hinduism as mere mythology have not the slightest idea of the high philosophy, lofty idealism, and splendid ethics contained in the Vedas, Upanishads, and the Bhagavad Gita." (from a letter to a friend, 1895) "Caste is a natural institution." (from a lecture in Madras, 1897) "I do not believe in a God or religion which cannot wipe the widow's tears or bring a piece of bread to the orphan's mouth." (from a lecture in London, 1896) Vivekananda believed that caste was not just a social reality, but a divine law created by God. In his view, each caste had its own unique qualities and responsibilities, and individuals were born into a particular caste based on their past karma. This idea of caste as a divine law was criticized for perpetuating the caste system and justifying discrimination. Vivekananda was opposed to inter-caste marriages and believed that they would only lead to chaos and confusion. He argued that the caste system was a natural division of society and that it was necessary for social stability. This view was criticized for promoting endogamy and preventing social mobility.

24:: Ambedkar received a degree in Sanskrit called "Shastri" from the University of Bombay in 1918.

01.01.1970 01:00:00 18.05.2023 13:30:08
some people may not be aware of Ambedkar's academic qualifications and his contributions to Sanskrit studies. As we discussed earlier, Ambedkar had a degree in Sanskrit from the University of Bombay and pursued further studies in the language at Columbia University and the University of Bonn. He also translated several Sanskrit texts into Marathi and English. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was proficient in Sanskrit and had a deep knowledge of Hindu scriptures. He learned Sanskrit at a young age and continued to study it throughout his life. He translated several Sanskrit texts into English and wrote extensively on Hinduism, Buddhism, and Indian history and culture. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar learned Sanskrit from a teacher named Pandit Shivram Apte, who was a respected scholar of Sanskrit and the principal of the Vasantrao Patil High School in Bombay. Ambedkar studied Sanskrit under Apte's guidance for several years in the early 1900s. Later, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar received a degree in Sanskrit grammar and literature called "Shastri" from the University of Bombay in 1918. there is evidence to support the claim that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar received a degree in Sanskrit called "Shastri" from the University of Bombay in 1918. Here are some references that provide evidence for this: In his book "Dr. Ambedkar and Democracy," the author Vasant Moon writes that Ambedkar "completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1912, and then went on to study for a master's degree in economics. He also simultaneously studied Sanskrit and received the degree of 'Shastri' from the University of Bombay in 1918." The University of Bombay (now known as the University of Mumbai) has a list of graduates on its website that includes B.R. Ambedkar, who received a degree in Sanskrit in 1918. The book "Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar: Writings and Speeches" includes a letter from Ambedkar to his friend Vaman Malhar Joshi, in which he writes: "I have passed my Shastri examination in Sanskrit. I hope I will not have to take up this subject again." In book "Dr. Ambedkar and Sanskrit," author Ramamurthy Naidu states that Ambedkar "possessed a rare mastery over Sanskrit, which he acquired through years of diligent study and dedicated practice." Dr. B.R. Ambedkar translated several Sanskrit texts into English. One of his most famous translations is the ancient Hindu text, the Manusmriti, which he translated and published under the title "The Laws of Manu." This translation is highly regarded and has been widely cited in scholarly works on Hindu law and tradition. He also translated the Rigveda into English, though this translation is not as well known. it is well-documented that Ambedkar was a highly educated and accomplished scholar who had a deep interest in Sanskrit and Buddhist philosophy. He also made significant contributions to the study and translation of Sanskrit texts, particularly in relation to Buddhism. In his book "The Buddha and His Dhamma," which he wrote in both English and Sanskrit, Ambedkar demonstrated his deep understanding of the Sanskrit language and his ability to interpret complex philosophical concepts. Additionally, in his speeches and writings, he frequently referenced Sanskrit texts and used Sanskrit quotes to support his arguments. There are several books that discuss Ambedkar's command over Sanskrit. Some of them are: "Ambedkar and Buddhism" by Sangharakshita - This book discusses Ambedkar's study of Sanskrit and his interpretation of Buddhist texts in the context of Indian social and political history. "Dr. Ambedkar and Sanskrit" by Shrinivas Tilak - In his book "Dr. Ambedkar and Sanskrit", Shrinivas Tilak argues that the criticisms of Ambedkar's command over Sanskrit are misguided and based on a misunderstanding of his views. Tilak presents several pieces of evidence to support his argument. Firstly, he points out that Ambedkar had a strong foundation in Sanskrit grammar and literature, having obtained a Shastri degree in Sanskrit from the University of Bombay in 1918. Secondly, Tilak cites several of Ambedkar's own writings and speeches, in which he demonstrates a deep understanding of Sanskrit and Hindu philosophy. For example, in his book "The Buddha and His Dhamma", Ambedkar extensively references Sanskrit texts such as the Vedas, Upanishads, and the Buddhist canon in order to make his arguments. Tilak also notes that Ambedkar's criticism of Hinduism was not based on a rejection of its Sanskrit-based tradition, but rather a rejection of the caste system and other social inequalities that were justified by certain interpretations of Hindu texts. 1. "Ambedkar and his Ideology" by A.C. Sinha - This book explores the relationship between Ambedkar's social and political ideas and his study of Sanskrit, particularly his critique of the caste system and his advocacy for social and political equality.

26:: रामराज्य ?

The term Ramrajya is used as an ideal social order Such a system should be established in which all the people of the society are happy. Not only the ancientists but also those who call themselves secular definitely use this word as an ideal social system. If Ramrajya, the governance and social system of Ram's time is presented in an ideal, then it becomes necessary to see what were the characteristics of Ramrajya. Was Ram Rajya really an ideal system of government in which people were happy, prosperous and dutiful and in which the ruler or king performed his duties towards the public efficiently? Rama is mentioned as a king in the Uttara Kanda. That's why how Ramrajya was, it can also be known on the basis of Uttar Kand only. One more thing is that the Ramrajya concept being so famous is also a proof that people have never considered Uttar Kand as projected. Ram's daily routine His daily routine was such that it was not possible to find time to concentrate on governance. Ram's daily routine was such that he used to take out time to pay attention to the state work while listening to the instrumental music by the singers and instrumentalists. Tasyan Rajanya Vyushtayan Pratapatibodhka :. Vandinah Samupatisthan Saumya Nripati Veshmani .. Te Raktakanthinah Sarve Kinnara Iv Shikshitah. Tushtavupati Veeram Yatavat Sampraharshinah (Uttar Kand 37/2,3) Means: When the night was over, when it was morning, the gentle prisoners appeared in the palace in the morning to wake up Ram. Their voices were very melodious, well versed in the art of music like eunuchs, those worshipers duly started the praise of the heroic king. Sutascha sanstvairdivyairbodhayanti sm raghavam. Stutibhi: Stuyamanabhi: Pratyabudhyat Raghavah.. (Answer Case 37-10) Means: The yarn also kept waking up Raghunath with divine praises. Ram wakes up by the praises recited in this way. After getting up, Ram needed thousands of servants to retire from the bath. The king who needs thousands of servants for his bath, can he be an ideal king, can his rule be an ideal rule? Rituals and worship of Brahmins According to the description of Ram's daily routine found in Ramayana, Ram did not get free time only from enjoyment, religious rituals and service of Brahmins. Kritodakaḥ Shuchirbhūtva Kale Huthutaśanaḥ. Devagaram Jagamashupunyamikshvakusevitam .. Tatra Devan Pitrna Vipraranchayitva Yathavidhi: . "Baikhyakshyaamantaram Ramo nirjagaama janairvrutah".. (Uttar Kand 37/13,14) Means: After retiring from the rituals in the morning, Ram performed the Havan. Then went to the temple served by the ancestors. After worshiping the gods, ancestors and Brahmins there, Ram went to the Raj Sabha with the gentlemen.

27:: रामायण, महाभारत, गीता, पुराण जैसे विषय प

I have often seen that whenever there is a debate with a logical person on a topic like Ramayana, Mahabharata, Gita, Puranas, he stops at Rigveda in the end after being defeated in all ways and says that Rigveda does not describe any god or deity. There is no hypocrisy with it. That's why you should read Rigveda. So finally I read Rigveda. Now let me see what is there in your Rigveda?? A little investigation has to be done. When I read, I found something that looks like a hoax. And if not, then why is it because in Rigveda, the most original text of Brahmins (Hindus), Krishna has been addressed with words like Asura, Rakshasa, Sinner, and later in Gita, Krishna has been described as the deity of the people along with all the Gods and Goddesses. . Logically Krishna was such a person who has been accepted as God only under conspiracy (to trap the natives). In spite of all this, Krishna, an ordinary man, became the supreme deity. You can see Chapter 10 and 14 in Bhagwat Gita to know how great Shri Krishna became. In these chapters Krishna says:- "O best of the Kurus, I shall now predominate for you the transcendental personalities, for there is no end to My expansion. O Arjuna, I am the soul of all beings situated in the heart of all beings and the beginning of all beings, I am also the middle and the end. Thus it is clear that there is no god greater than Krishna as far as the Gita is concerned. Even Brahma, the so-called creator of the universe, is inferior to him. Let's_investigate a little:- Indra is the main deity of the Rigveda, the main scripture of the Hindus. Of its 10,552 verses, 3,500 i.e. exactly one-third are related to Indra. The difference of opinion and war between Indra and Krishna is well known. In the famous epic Mahabharata, Vedvyas has described Krishna as the winner and Indra has been shown to be defeated. This war of Indra and Krishna is not a war fought face to face. In this war, the worship of Indra is opposed by Krishna, due to which the enraged Indra is intent on drowning the people of Mathura by raining heavily. Krishna saves his people from the wrath of Indra through Govardhan Parvat. Indra gets tired and accepts defeat. There is no face-to-face battle anywhere in this entire episode, but other Hindu scriptures, especially the Rigveda, mention gruesome violence during this battle and show Indra as the victor. It has been said in the 8th verse of Rigveda Mandal-1 Sukta 130 that – “O Indra! Arya protects the host in war. Indra, who protects his devotees in many ways, protects him in all wars and protects him in pleasant battles. For the welfare of his devotees, Indra had committed violence against Yagya-haters. Indra stripped off the black skin of an asura named Krishna and killed him on the banks of the Anshumati river and burnt him to ashes. Indra destroyed all violent humans. It is written in the first verse of Sukta 101 of Mandal-1 of Rigveda that: “Gamatvijas, the Indra who killed the pregnant wives of Krishna Asura because of the friendship of King Rijishva, with food in the form of Havi for the purpose of his praiseworthy Indra- He also spoke words of praise. He holds a thunderbolt in his Kamavarni right hand. Desirous of protection, we invoke that same Indra along with the Maruts. Verses 13, 14, 15 and 17 of Mandala 8 Sukta 96 of the Rigveda should also be seen to understand the indebtedness of the enmity between Indra and Krishna (see the original Sanskrit verses in the Veda published by Shanti Kunj Prakashan, Gayatri Pariwar, Haridwar). Verse 13 of Rigveda: An asura named Krishna who was fast moving and carrying ten thousand armies along with him lived on the banks of Anshumati river. Indra searched that shouting asura with his intelligence and destroyed the slayer armies for the benefit of mankind. Verse 14: Indra said - I have seen Krishna Asura roaming in a cave on the banks of the river Anshumati, situated in the water like the bright sun. O lustful Maruto, I seek thee for battle. You kill him in battle. Verse 15: The fast-moving demon Krishna used to live on the banks of the Anshumati river as a shining light. Indra, with the help of Brihaspati, killed Kali and the armies coming to attack. Verse 17: O thunderbolt Indra! You have done that work. By becoming a unique warrior, you destroyed the power of Krishna with your thunderbolt. You killed Krishna Asura with his face down for the welfare of Kutsa with your weapons and got the cows of the enemies by your power. (Translation-Veda, Vishwa Books, Delhi Press, New Delhi)

The Hindu literature called Arya-Sahitya or Arsha-Sahitya begins with the Rigveda, which is an ancient text. The Rigveda only describes prayers, praises and worship. It is read by those who are hungry for knowledge and spirituality. Nothing but stupidity is found in this literature. Yes, unscientific, contrary to reason and misleading things are definitely found in the tenth division of Rigveda. This has made the social system like the worst and worthless. A deadly social disease like caste system has been born through Rigveda. This proves that a large part of Hindu literature, which is also called Arya-literature, is full of hypocrisy like big bulls which stop the path of social development and lead to its downfall. Explaining the punishment, Manu has prescribed that the king should expel a Shudra sitting on a seat with a Brahmin by beating him in the waist with hot iron or cut off his buttocks: Sahasranamabhi prapatsurutkratsyapa Krishnaja.Katyaṃ kṛtaṃkōvasyaḥ sphichan vāsyavakrtayet .. - Manusmriti. 8/281 There is an order in Manusmriti to treat Shudra like a robber does with a victim. While ordering the forced snatching from the Shudra it is said: Aharetrini or Dave or Kama Shudrasya Veshmanah. Nor Shudrasya Yagyeshu Kashidasti Parigraha... - Manusmriti. 11/13 That is, if the Yagya is not being completed due to two or three reasons, especially due to lack of money, then for its completion, if the Vaishya does not get money (due to rape or theft), he should bring money from the place of a rich Shudra, because the Yagya of Shudra has no connection with. , A similar command is found elsewhere in the Manusmriti as well: Visrabdham Brahmin: Shudrad Dravyapadanmat. Na tassyasti kinchitsav bhartruhariydhano hi sa:- Manusmriti 8/417 That is, a Brahmin should take the wealth of a Shudra without any choice, because he has no personal wealth and that wealth is acceptable to the owner, that is, the owner has the right to accept the wealth of the Shudra. Hindu theology has declared Shudra as a born slave. The Manusmriti states that whether a Shudra is bought or not, he should be made to work like a slave, because the Creator has kept him only to serve the Brahmins: Shudram tu karayed dasya kritamkritamev va. Te cha sva chaiva rajnyash tash sva chagarajanamana: Manusmriti.3/13 The_names_of_shudras_are_servants Slavery should also drip from the names of Shudras, such orders exist in Hindu religious texts. There is a religious law that there should be the word 'Das' behind their names. For example: shudrasya prashyasamyutam - Manusmriti. 2/32 Das: Shudrasya worker - Yamasmriti 998/5 The same thing is found in many other religious texts as well. There is no such thing in the religious scriptures that such discriminatory orders have been given towards Shudras. Similar orders are also found in grammar and poetic texts. Panini writes in his book Ashtadhyayi: Greetings Shudra - 8/2/83 That is, when a big person accepts the greeting of a Shudra after being greeted, he should not show much enthusiasm. There is a rule of theater that there should be a separate place for the Shudras to sit in the northeast of the theatre. They sit there. Shudra characters appear on the stage dressed in black. Hero to be noble. In the epic, there can be a deity or a virtuous person or a Kshatriya hero. In drama, the language of noble men should be Sanskrit and Prakrit of low caste characters. The language of extremely lowly characters Chandaladi should be Paishachi or Magadhi. This casteism has been going on for a long time and many people have been harmed because of it. On the basis of this division, casteism divided the society into upper classes and lower classes
