Thunderstrike took place just after the collection main building was closed (but I had gotten to my seat at around 2:30 pm- I didn't want to stand or sit down in the sun). Two soldiers (dressed in period clothing) came riding horses, then a scout party of US Army troops came running after and a medium sized drop that can carry ordnance dropped some bombs on the vehicles on the range, then a few 8x8 Strykers came, followed by two M2 Bradley APC Tanks, and finally M1A3 Abrams MBT's and towards the end is where my video clip starts. This was my first Live Fire Demonstration type of event, hopefully not my last./media:description> media:community> media:starRating count="10" average="5.00" min="1" max="5"/> media:statistics views="801"/> /media:community> /media:group> /entry> entry> id>yt:video:QbvJc4Ll8FQ/id> yt:videoId>QbvJc4Ll8FQ/yt:videoId> yt:channelId>UCdCfkGv1lkADHxl5actklAg/yt:channelId> title>1958 MacMinn LeMans Coupe and 1947 Timbs Special (the video thumbnail car)/title> link rel="alternate" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbvJc4Ll8FQ"/> author> name>Alexander1485/name> uri>https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdCfkGv1lkADHxl5actklAg/uri> /author> published>2024-03-12T06:33:27+00:00/published> updated>2024-04-27T09:24:14+00:00/updated> media:group> media:title>1958 MacMinn LeMans Coupe and 1947 Timbs Special (the video thumbnail car)/media:title> media:content url="https://www.youtube.com/v/QbvJc4Ll8FQ?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="390"/> media:thumbnail url="https://i2.ytimg.com/vi/QbvJc4Ll8FQ/hqdefault.jpg" width="480" height="360"/> media:description>Two very unique cars in this video (1947 Tims Special shown in video thumbnail). The MacMinn LMC (LeMans Coupe) was a dream by Strother MacMinn who in 1958 envisioned what an American LeMans coupe racing at the 24 hours of LeMans would look like. Strother MacMinn was an art professor at the Art Center College of Design in California and made 7 bodies (3 were actually built and running + the one you see here in 2024), the first car was featured on at 1958 cover of Road and Track magazine, the second car became a drag racer which was raced by Walter Jackson under “Witchcraft” and I believe the third car ended up in a field in California which became this car (using period correct parts/looking period correct and an authentic 1957 Corvette 283ci motor and transmission). The 1947 Timbs Special was made by Norman Timbs (he worked for Tucker Automobiles and designed the Halibrand racing rim) who envisioned an American custom car with the essence of the late 1930s Auto Union and Mercedes Streamliner record cars. It featured a longitudinal Buick inline 8 (straight 8 to some) and buick gearbox connected by a u-joint to the rear axle (kind of like the Chevy Cheetah racing car of the 1960s). This car can be very briefly seen in the remake of the Gone in 60 Seconds Movie with Nicolas Cage. It was restored in 2010 and featured in the Road and Track Cover Cars class at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance in which it debuted. It also went to the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. In 2018 during the California Malibu wild fires (the owner was on vacation) it was almost practically destroyed (76 other cars and bikes of the owner were totally destroyed). It has been restored a second time sourced the exact original parts Norman Timbs used./media:description> media:community> media:starRating count="10" average="5.00" min="1" max="5"/> media:statistics views="648"/> /media:community> /media:group> /entry> entry> id>yt:video:uNKx5stu5hw/id> yt:videoId>uNKx5stu5hw/yt:videoId> yt:channelId>UCdCfkGv1lkADHxl5actklAg/yt:channelId> title>1967 Ford Mustang/title> link rel="alternate" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNKx5stu5hw"/> author> name>Alexander1485/name> uri>https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdCfkGv1lkADHxl5actklAg/uri> /author> published>2024-03-12T05:48:19+00:00/published> updated>2024-05-08T07:13:25+00:00/updated> media:group> media:title>1967 Ford Mustang/media:title> media:content url="https://www.youtube.com/v/uNKx5stu5hw?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="390"/> media:thumbnail url="https://i2.ytimg.com/vi/uNKx5stu5hw/hqdefault.jpg" width="480" height="360"/> media:description>It was built at Ford’s Lima, Peru factory and owned by Galjuf family. Christobal who was the son, daily drove it with his family (he originally bought it for his wife in 1967) for around 6 years then decided to send it to Holman and Moody (yes that one, from North Carolina) in July of 1970 to go racing. It has a 302ci Boss headed V8 and was finished and shipped back to Peru (packed in crates, and once in Peru reassembled). It was built to 1971 Trans-Am Mustang specifications and the body was acid dipped for lower weight (it was road tested at Road Atlanta). It began racing in Peru in 1973 and was entered in 6 races where it won 4 and came in second for the other 2 and after around 1974 (it also raced in Mexico and Argentina) the car sat for decades unused (interesting note is that Christobal went by the nickname "Batman" so his father wouldn't find about about his racing). The engine was later rebuilt by Lee Holman in 1992 where it got a Holman and Moody vin plate. The car sat some more time and somehow ended up in the Jorge Nicolini Collection in Peru and then came to the USA in the late 2000s where it is still today after which it was restored around 2015. I believe I got the story right (Hagerty.com and Ponysite.de have the whole story and details about the car)/media:description> media:community> media:starRating count="14" average="5.00" min="1" max="5"/> media:statistics views="262"/> /media:community> /media:group> /entry> entry> id>yt:video:M4ZiBSF5zl8/id> yt:videoId>M4ZiBSF5zl8/yt:videoId> yt:channelId>UCdCfkGv1lkADHxl5actklAg/yt:channelId> title>1965 Shelby Mustang GT350R/title> link rel="alternate" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4ZiBSF5zl8"/> author> name>Alexander1485/name> uri>https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdCfkGv1lkADHxl5actklAg/uri> /author> published>2024-03-12T05:00:54+00:00/published> updated>2024-03-29T03:53:50+00:00/updated> media:group> media:title>1965 Shelby Mustang GT350R/media:title> media:content url="https://www.youtube.com/v/M4ZiBSF5zl8?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="390"/> media:thumbnail url="https://i2.ytimg.com/vi/M4ZiBSF5zl8/hqdefault.jpg" width="480" height="360"/> media:description>This is GT350R SFM5R106, one of the 34 original GT350R's ( + 2 prototypes SFM5R001 and SFM5R002 [which was actually made first before 5R001]) made by Shelby from the factory. 1:: 1948 CHANCE VOUGHT F4U-5 Corsair

01.01.1970 01:00:00 06.05.2024 06:03:31
Post WW2 (but Im guessng Korean war lineage) single seat carrier based fighter with a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp Radial Engine. It was at the Red, White and Blue Airshow in Monroe, Louisiana.

2:: Operation Thunderstrike (US Army Live Fire Demo)

01.01.1970 01:00:00 29.04.2024 03:15:03
2024 Operation Thunderstrike at Fort Moore (formally Fort Benning) during the Armor and Calvary Collection Open House. This was my first Live Fire Demonstration type of event, hopefully not my last.

3:: 1958 MacMinn LeMans Coupe and 1947 Timbs Special (the video thumbnail car)

01.01.1970 01:00:00 12.03.2024 06:33:27
Two very unique cars in this video (1947 Tims Special shown in video thumbnail). It has been restored a second time sourced the exact original parts Norman Timbs used.

4:: 1967 Ford Mustang

01.01.1970 01:00:00 12.03.2024 05:48:19
It was built at Ford’s Lima, Peru factory and owned by Galjuf family. I believe I got the story right (Hagerty.com and Ponysite.de have the whole story and details about the car)

5:: 1965 Shelby Mustang GT350R

01.01.1970 01:00:00 12.03.2024 05:00:54
This is GT350R SFM5R106, one of the 34 original GT350R's ( + 2 prototypes SFM5R001 and SFM5R002 [which was actually made first before 5R001]) made by Shelby from the factory. It was powered by a Ford 289ci V8 which made around 325 hp. It was delivered new to Jack Loftus Ford of Hindsdale, Illinois. It was sold to Dick Jordon who raced it for 21 years. He raced it at Road America, Lynndale Farms, Clermont and Wilmot Raceway. I had previously seen this car at the 2021 Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, Florida where it sold post auction I believe at the Mecum Indianapolis Gallery Exposition sale.

6:: 1966 Ford GT40 MK1

01.01.1970 01:00:00 11.03.2024 19:49:03
This is 1 of the 31 original road going GT40 MK1's, this is Chassis P/1069. This GT40 is also an original press car loaned to journalists for test drives. It's also the infamous "hostage" car, originally delivered to Scuderia Filipinetti as part of their sales division and was shown at the 1967 Geneva (Switzerland) Auto Salon.

7:: 1964 Ford Falcon

01.01.1970 01:00:00 11.03.2024 18:28:26
This Ford Falcon raced at the 1967 Rolex 24 at Daytona (first sponsorship was in 1964) which is also known as the Daytona 24 Hours (first 24 hour race was in 1966, year before this car raced). This Falcon finished 12th overall with Ray Heppenstall and Bill Seely. It also raced the 1967 Sebring 12 Hours and finished 19th overall with Ray Heppenstall, Bill Seely and Bob Nagel.

8:: 2024 SSC Tuatara Striker

01.01.1970 01:00:00 11.03.2024 04:58:38
SSC stands for Shelby Super Cars (unaffiliated with Carrol Shelby's family - just a circumstance) and this one of their three offerings, the Tuatara, Striker, Aggressor. It has a 1750hp 5.9L V8 Twin Turbo engine making power from ethanol but with 91 octane (USA fuel) it can make 1350hp. For more info and information their website is https://www.sscnorthamerica.com/

9:: Mercedes Benz 300SL "Gullwing"

01.01.1970 01:00:00 09.03.2024 01:41:10
Im not totally sure (obviously didn't ask) if this is an authentic body or a replica body on this 300SL but I know the drive train is totally modified (no inline 6 cylinder) but I took this video simply because it had awesome sound. Not sure of the drivetrain or engine specs.

10:: 1929/1933 Stutz DV-32 "Brisson"

01.01.1970 01:00:00 08.03.2024 21:08:38
This Stutz is interesting, has a replica body but the engine and frame are all Stutz, 1929 frame and 1933 (322ci DOHC inline 8 engine making over 200 hp at 4300 rpms). Its a high performance Stutz at (the time of course, 1930s) that has a body made to copy the 1931/1932 Brisson Catteneo LeMans Car. To me it sounded amazing, it was doing demos for future prospect buyers I believe.

11:: 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302 - Part 2

01.01.1970 01:00:00 05.02.2024 11:21:18
Note: the car idling in the background is a 1970 pre-production Ford Mustang Boss 302. This is a 1 of 2 Customer made 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302's made with Trans-Am specifications but with a twist, also 1 of 2 with webber carburetors (the other being the Allan Moffat's Coca Cola 1969 Mustang Boss 302). Ironically enough both Bud Moore Customer Race Boss 302 Mustangs were in "rival" drink company liveries. Some more history, facts and past videos of the car are here: Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26jgTqjj4fQ a Ride Along video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fcXcZbaI3o

12:: 1966 Ford GT40 MK1

01.01.1970 01:00:00 01.02.2024 06:41:02
This is chassis GT40 P/1052, one of 31 of the 87 GT40 P production cars were equipped as road cars (note: Mecum stated it was 30 but its actually 31). Umberto Maglioli, a manufacturer (works in UK speak) driver for Ferrari and Porsche in the 1960s and winner of the Targa Florio and 12 Hours of Sebring. It was professionally restored by Ruf Automobiles. This was the first time it has been seen in a public setting for over 30 years. It has just over 13,400 original miles on it.

13:: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona Nascar

01.01.1970 01:00:00 31.01.2024 05:59:32
This legitimate Nascar Daytona started life as Dave Marcis's #30 Nascar Daytona (blue, yellow #30 and black top with red Daytona above the rear fenders and black steel wheels). -It was restored in the 1980s (and used for Goody's headache powder as a show car and painted in a #43 Petty type of livery) eventually wound out in the Winston Cup Museum and with it's current Livery. -Something to note with this car is that its believed this was the only "Winged Car" to run in a short track race (Martinsville, Speedway) because his primary short track car was crashed and damaged and his Daytona was used as a sort of backup car. PS- sorry for the Shaky video, I always try to keep videos smooth and generally I do and have a pretty steady hand.

14:: 2008 Rooke Rossmeyer Flyer No. 3

01.01.1970 01:00:00 31.01.2024 04:02:30
I don't normally do motorcycles/bikes but this sounded nice and right time and place I guess. This bike was made in the custom "Cali-Cruiser" style motorcycle by the late noted builder Jesse Rooke of Rooke Customs. It is 1 of 3 Rossmeyer flyers built for the late Bruce Rossmeyer owner of a large Harley dealership, Rossmeyer Daytona Harley Davidson.

15:: 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429

01.01.1970 01:00:00 30.01.2024 20:23:37
This is KK number 1546 and 1 of 3 Boss 429s reserved by Ford Corporate in 1969.

16:: 2014 Chevrolet COPO Camaro

01.01.1970 01:00:00 30.01.2024 19:33:34
It is #49 of #69 made that year. It also has a Supercharged 350ci V8 engine.

17:: 1965 Dodge Coronet W051 Lightweight

01.01.1970 01:00:00 28.01.2024 02:50:46
blast from the past from 2019.

18:: Dodge and Ford Nascar Race Cars

01.01.1970 01:00:00 31.10.2023 03:38:34
The first car is Richard Petty's 1971 (I believe) Dodge Charger with a 426ci Hemi motor and the second car is Donnie Allison's 1970 Ford Torino Talladega with a 429ci Boss 429 motor.

19:: Cruisin' Around Talladega Superspeedway

01.01.1970 01:00:00 30.10.2023 19:49:34
I was to find out a friend of mine showed (totally surprised me) up for a car show (The Preservation Heritage Event) at Talladega Superspeedway in Lincoln, Alabama (only been to this track two other times, earlier in the year for the Museum [International Motorsports Hall of Fame] and early in the 2000's for a NASCAR race, either 2001 or 2002, I think Talladega 500, not sure). The friends name is Tim and he and his buddy Mark were going to do some track sessions in Tim's 1966 Ford Mustang 289 4-speed in Arcadian (AKA Baby Blue) blue with factory knock off hubcaps he nicknames the "Grocery Getter" and asked if I wanted to join and I obviously said yes, signed the waiver and was their passenger for 4 sessions (tires were getting a little worn and fuel was getting below a quarter), sat in the back seat for 3 of the 4 sessions and the front seat for the last session (2 or 3 laps each). There were tons of challengers, some mustangs (a 2012 Boss 302 Mustang), a Nissan Skyline GTS-T R33 and a late 1950s Ford Fairlane to name a few, probably about 50-100 vehicles during the different sessions, maybe 15-20 in one at a time. Note: both side windows were down so thats why there is some wind buffeting. Sorry for the long description but it helps with the back story. I got these video clips and tons of pictures of the experience.

20:: Big Rigs at night

01.01.1970 01:00:00 27.10.2023 08:20:34
This is from a event called the Highway Outlaws Truck Show "Big Rig Drags" I decided to go to, had the time and there wasn't anything going on. They drag raced (its on an 8th mile drag strip) and some didn't but were on hand to be viewed. Maybe around 20-30 trucks. It was at the US90 Dragway formally Mobile Dragway. (or it could I could be wrong and its the other way around) It was a pretty fun event.

21:: 1945 Boeing B-17G "Yankee Lady"

01.01.1970 01:00:00 27.10.2023 08:14:28
This plane is owned by the Yankee Air Museum in Michigan. It was the 14th to the last B17 manufactured by Boeing. It never saw combat action during WW2. It ended up with the US Coast Guard after WW2. In 1959, the airplane was sold to Ace Smelting, Inc. In November of that same year, Fairchild Aerial Survey Company purchased the aircraft and used it for aerial survey work. In 1966, the plane was sold to Aircraft Specialties, Inc. of Mesa, Arizona as an air tanker. In 1969, the aircraft was one of five B-17s flown to Hawaii and used in the filming of the film Tora! Tora! Tora!, released in 1970. In 1985, the airplane was among four other B-17s that were put up for sale at an auction held by Globe Air, the successor company to Aircraft Specialties and bought by the Yankee Air Museum and took over 5 years to restore to a WW2 configuration.

22:: 1943 Beech SNB (RC-45J)

01.01.1970 01:00:00 02.04.2023 07:09:13
Rode in this 1943 Beech SNB (RC-45J - the last designation it got), BuNos 67124. It was a 20-25 minute flight around Pensacola, Florida. These were the videos I got (got numerous pictures as well). The plane is part of the Commemorative Air Force collection - Indiana Wing.

23:: 1941 Consolidated B-24A "Lil Diamond"

01.01.1970 01:00:00 28.03.2023 00:35:55
I didn't get it taxiing out because of the harsh sun (no cloud cover at the time) and I didn't think they would do tours on it, even though 2 separate ones were booked, engine #3 was being stubborn. The history of the plane is written below. This plane was originally to go to Great Britain (before the USA entered WW2) but was damaged in a landing accident that ripped/damaged the undercarriage. It was sold back to Consolidated and they turned it into a executive official plane. It actually never bombed in WW2 but flew high profile people to England a few times. It was because it had no bomb bay, it became the prototype for the C-87 Liberator Express Transport plane. After WW2 it was sold to Continental Can Company and used for their executives. Finally before the CAF (Confederate but now Commemorative Air Force) finally got it, it went to PEMEX - Petroleos Mexicanos (fuel company). The CAF began (as much as possible0 turning it back into what it was originally, a bomber... but they are leaving the loading door thats on the Captains side (for ease of access).

24:: 1962 VW Type 1 "Bus"

01.01.1970 01:00:00 11.03.2023 05:01:10
This was a one off half track creation by Austrian Kurt Kretzner. The many wheels were to minimize the ground pressure the vehicle put on terrain such as mud, snow, sand, etc (similar to a German Panzer V Panther medium or Panzer 6 Tiger heavy tank with its multiple interleaved road wheels). This T1 uses its standard 1.2L 33hp Flat 4 engine which only gives it a speed of 21 mph (35 kmh as stated on the back of the vehicle). There were two made but it seems only this one survives today. The Oldtimer vw group just completed restoration of the vehicle last year and showed/unveiled it at a club show that year as well (because of the hard work of finding/sourcing and parts over Germany). I believe the 2023 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance is it's first major International show its been to since restoration was completed. Interesting vehicle.

25:: 1970 Porsche 917PA

01.01.1970 01:00:00 11.03.2023 04:37:27
Chassis 28 was used for developmental testing for open body and precursor to the 917/10 Turbo Flat 12 Can-Am car. Its owned by the Revs Institute Collection (Formally the Collier Collection years back). At the 2023 28th Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance.

26:: 1966 Ford GT40 MKII

01.01.1970 01:00:00 11.03.2023 04:22:31
This is GT40 MKII (MK II's were the standard looking big block 427 GT40s) is chassis P/1012. It has an interesting history too long to list here (google will help you). Its one of 11 GT40 MKII's campaigned in 1966. It didn't really have a good racing history but had an interesting off track history due to it being used as a publicity car, test car, fire systems test car and original chassis was destroyed but an original chassis was used in period (1973) for the rebuilt completed GT40 MKII. At the 2023 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance.

27:: 1970 IMSA Datsun 240Z GTU

01.01.1970 01:00:00 11.03.2023 03:47:47
This is the 1976 IMSA Championship winning 1970 Datsun 240Z in the GTU class. It was driven Brad Frisselle who won 8 of the 11 races the team entered. This was the very first 240Z chassis imported to the US as well. The team composed of former mechanics and engineers from legendary teams like BRE and Carroll Shelby under the Transcendental Racing team. The team would evolve into Electramotive group which would help Nissan be a world contender in the Group C category. At the 2023 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance.

28:: 1964 Ferrari 250LM

01.01.1970 01:00:00 11.03.2023 03:12:46
This is the 1964 Ferrari 250LM that won the 1965 24 Heures du Mans (24 Hours of LeMans- its a French race) and was run by the NART (North American Racing Team). This car is chassis #5893 and was driven by Jochen Rindt, Masten Gregory, Ed Hugus (was supposed to drive another Ferrari but drove 5893 for a few hours when Jochen Rindt came in exhausted). The car is now owned by the Indianapolis 500 racing museum. At the 2023 28th Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance.

29:: Two for One

01.01.1970 01:00:00 28.01.2023 01:43:57
The 1969 Berger Chevrolet Camaro 427ci and 1964 Mercury Comet A/FX 427.

30:: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona NASCAR

01.01.1970 01:00:00 25.01.2023 02:54:55
This might be a replica, recreation or tribute, NOT SURE, but it definitely sounded great and it sold 1.3 Million dollars and with buyers premium, 1.4 Million so its obviously worth something to someone. It did look great and I saw this car in 2005 at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance but got limited (digital memory cards weren't that big then) pictures of it, so regardless it was nice to see and hear it again. It's in the Bobby Allison Coca Cola #22 livery.

31:: 1967 Ford GT40 MKIV J10

01.01.1970 01:00:00 25.01.2023 02:07:04
This is chassis J10, the last actual GT40 MKIV chassis built in period (along with 2 spare chassis built later - J11 and J12). This car actually went Can-Am (Canadian American Challenge Cup) racing in 1969 (its first foray into racing). J9 also got open cockpit body work and that interesting movable wing but it was only for testing. This car, J10, was raced by some great drivers such as George Folmer, David Hobbs, Peter Revson, Jack Brabham, and Vic Elford. The car didn't find much success because the McLarens (especially in 1969-1971) were almost unbeatable but it did finish 2nd Fuji Speedway in Japan of all places. I wish this car was restored in it's Can-Am open top body work but it was restored in 2017 in a normal GT40 MKIV appearance.

32:: 1964 Shelby Cooper Monaco King Cobra

01.01.1970 01:00:00 23.01.2023 06:24:04
This car was originally built by John Cooper and race prepared by Carrol Shelby who put a Ford 289ci V8 into the car. It was raced in 1964 by Bob Bondurant in 1964 and Roy Salvadori in 1965.

33:: 1966 Shelby Cobra

01.01.1970 01:00:00 23.01.2023 04:23:10
This is CSX 3270, which I believe was a normal 427 (but with a 428ci Police interceptor engine) street car but in 1971 was converted to 427 S/C spec and in 1981 converted to Competition spec. It has a real 427 engine in it (I believe put in 1971) and is painted guardsman blue.

34:: 1969 Ford Mustang drag car

01.01.1970 01:00:00 23.01.2023 01:27:28
This car was campaigned on the West Coast drag racing circuit. The sponsor was Foulger Ford (the script on the side) out of Monrovia, California. It was driven by female drag racer Lucy Below and known as "Lucy's Larceny." It was retired after three years. It has a Ram Air 428 Cobra Jet engine.

35:: 1966 Shelby GT350H race car

01.01.1970 01:00:00 23.01.2023 00:55:41
Originally this car was a factory car (SFM6S596) bought by Hertz Rental Car company. In 1967-1968 it was converted to a B/P (B production- the class it raced) Race car. Purchased by John Straw. Then in 1971-1972 purchased by Northwest Auto. Purchased by Richard Roush in 1984.
