··· ··· ··· ··· «Poesie im Pinselstrich» zeigt das enge Zusammenspiel von bildlicher Darstellung und Dichtung in der traditionellen Landschaftsmalerei des alten Chinas. Vor knapp 1000 Jahren betrachtete man Malerei als Poesie ohne Worte und Gedichte als Gemälde ohne Formen. Beide Künste inspirierten sich gegenseitig und vermittelten subtile Botschaften, von persönlichen Gefühlen bis zur politischen Kritik. Kuratorin Alexandra von Przychowski schätzt besonders ein Werk, welches durch Witz und Ironie besticht. Der Maler Shen Hao macht sich in seinen Meisterwerken über unantastbare Idole und alte Meister der Song- und Yuan-Dynastie lustig und fordert, dass jeder Künstler seinen eigenen Weg gehen müsse. ··· ··· ··· ··· Die Kuratorin der Ausstellung, Alexandra von Przychowski, gibt einen Einblick in die Ausstellung «Poesie im Pinselstrich – Malerei und Dichtung in der Kunst Chinas», die noch bis zum 10. September 2023 in der Park-Villa Rieter zu sehen ist. Die Ausstellung macht die enge Verbindung zwischen chinesischer Malerei und Dichtkunst deutlich und zeigt, wie raffiniert ihr Zusammenspiel ist. Beide Künste inspirierten sich gegenseitig und vermittelten auf subtile Art und Weise eigene Botschaften. Für die Ausstellung wurden sämtliche Gedichte auf den Malereien erstmals übersetzt. Sie eröffnen einen ganzen Kosmos an persönlichen und gesellschaftlichen Bezügen. Im Jahr 1971 wagte Hans Himmelheber ein ungewöhnliches Experiment, denn er wollte wissen: Gibt es Porträtkunst in Afrika? Angeregt von der Fragestellung, bat er vier Bildhauer in der Côte d'Ivoire, eine Porträtmaske von ihm zu schnitzen. ··· ··· ··· ··· Als einer der Ersten ist der Kunstethnologe Hans Himmelheber in den 1930er Jahren in die Côte d'Ivoire gereist und hat vor Ort mit den Bildhauern Interviews geführt. Er dokumentierte ihre Werkprozesse, hielt ihre Namen fest und unterhielt sich mit ihnen über ihre ästhetischen Prinzipien. In vielen Publikationen machte er dieses Wissen in Europa bekannt. Die Ausstellung «Look Closer» (bis 17. September 2023) ermöglicht es nun, in das umfangreiche Archiv Himmelhebers einzutauchen. Neben den Objekten, Schriften, Fotografien und Filmen, sind in der Ausstellung auch die künstlerischen Positionen von vier zeitgenössischen Künstler*innen aus der Côte d'Ivoire und der Demokratischen Republik Kongo zu sehen, die sich intensiv mit dem Archiv von Hans Himmelheber auseinandergesetzt haben. ··· ··· ··· ··· Von den rituellen Praktiken der Jains über die kunstvolle Herstellung von Handschriften bis zu Pilgerreisen und dem Leben von Asket*innen in Indien: Fünf bildstarke Kurzfilme geben in der Ausstellung «Jain sein» Einblicke in ganz persönliche Lebensgeschichten. Dabei begleitete das Filmteam jainistische Mönche und Nonnen beim Pilgern und legte über tausend Kilometer zurück. Konzipiert und produziert hat die Filme Harsha Vinay, Leiter von Green Barbet, das Beratungs- und Vermittlungsdienste für internationale Museen und kulturelle Organisationen anbietet. Vinay hat bereits in der Vergangenheit an mehreren Ausstellungen mitgearbeitet und war Direktor des Alice Boner Institute im indischen Varanasi. Für Co-Kurator Johannes Beltz war schon vor Jahren klar, dass diese Skulptur einmal Teil einer Ausstellung sein wird. ··· ··· ··· ··· Ergänzend zur Ausstellung «Jain sein – Kunst und Leben einer indischen Religion» widmet sich «Jina sein – Das Kalpasutra» in der Park-Villa Rieter der westindischen Miniaturmalerei. Beide Ausstellungen laufen vom 18.11.22 bis 30.4.23. Der Animationsfilm greift ausgewählte Miniaturen aus der Sammlung auf und erzählt frei vom Lebensweg des legendären Religionsgründers Mahavira: Vom Einsetzen des Embryos durch den Gott Harinaigameshin über seinen Rückzug aus dem weltlichen Leben hin zur Erlösung. Der Film ist eine freie Interpretation basierend auf den Bildern aus dem Kalpasutra-Manuskript und wurde vom Büro Berrel Gschwind erstellt. rietberg.ch/jain

··· ··· ··· ··· Das zur Ausstellung «Jain sein» entwickelte Würfelspiel «Und Du? Das Spiel der Fragen» erinnert an das in Kindertagen gespielte Leiterspiel. In der Version des Museums Rietberg geht es weder um Geschwindigkeit, noch um richtig oder falsch. Stattdessen lernt man seine Mitspieler*innen ganz neu kennen, in dem man sein Gegenüber einschätzen muss. Spielbar in der Ausstellung «Jain sein – Kunst und Leben einer indischen Religion» (bis 30.4.23) oder mit dem Spielfeld in der Begleitpublikation (shop.rietberg.ch) und der webbasierten App (unddu.rietberg.ch). «Und Du?» wurde in Zusammenarbeit mit Kellian Adams Pletcher vom amerikanischen Game Design Studio FableVision entwickelt, die App erstellten Philippe Karrer und Julien Félix. Das Projekt wurde grosszügig von der Max Kohler Stiftung unterstützt. Der Trailer entwickelte xkopp studios aus Berlin.
