Why do the indigenous people of Colombia chew coca leaves? 🍃 Find out more about the significance and use of this sacred plant in the new exhibition "More Than Gold" that offers an entirely new perspective on the art and culture of this region. The exhibition is the first ever to explore the diverse spectrum of masterful artistic production in pre-Hispanic Colombia and spotlight these works from an indigenous perspective. For almost seven years, the curators worked with the Arhuaco community to gather knowledge about around 400 impressive artefacts. Together, they have created an exhibition that provides new insights into this art, which has been largely unknown to us until now, as well as into the worldview of the indigenous people.
The exhibition was realised in cooperation with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Museo del Oro in Bogotá, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and members of the Arhuaco indigenous community of Colombia. In Europe, the exhibition can only be seen in Zurich.
