What's the "Machu Picchu of Colombia"? ⛰️🤔 – It is Ciudad Perdida, the lost city that was rediscovered in the 1970s. It is one of the most important archaeological sites in South America and holds many secrets 🔎. It was built between 600 and 1200 CE by the Tairona indigenous community and is an example of highly developed urban and stone architecture. The Arhuaco, who still live in the region, see themselves as the descendants of the Tairona and the Ciudad Perdida as their sacred place.
Learn more about the lost city and its spiritual significance in our new exhibition "More Than Gold", which was created in almost seven years of close collaboration with the Arhuaco. It provides new insights into the masterful art and culture of Colombia's indigenous people.
The exhibition was realised in cooperation with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Museo del Oro in Bogotá, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and members of the Arhuaco indigenous community of Colombia. In Europe, the exhibition can only be seen in Zurich.
