Errors in the sequence of DNA letters that encode the instructions of each human cell lead to diseases such as cystic fibrosis, Tay-Sachs disease and sickle cell anemia. Scientists can sometimes correct these errors, thanks to gene-editing techniques that rearrange these letters. Other disorders result from problems with how the cellular machinery reads DNA rather than from a defect in the coding itself . Scientists can sometimes correct these errors, thanks to gene-editing techniques that rearrange these letters.
