Lawmakers officially passed a state budget on Thursday.
Topping out at $12.47 billion, Republican lawmakers call this a record budget.
Touting the new state budget - with record savings, investments in education, and the long-awaited grocery sales tax cut, Rep. Kevin Wallace (R- District 32) said, “It really is a great budget for the state of Oklahoma and we have a record number of savings with an estimate of about $4.7 billion.”
But there was debate down to the wire.
The main concern coming from House Democrats was that lawmakers didn’t spend all the money they had available.
They call it money - left dormant. Lawmakers also increased funding for state agencies by two percent, and the overall budget is five percent less than they spent in 2025.
The budget passed overwhelmingly and wrapped up the final session of the 59th legislature.
The only step left is for Governor Stitt to officially sign the budget - which would go into effect on July 1.
