TxDOT TxDOT’s Landscape Architects celebrate 90 years of service in 2023. From the hiring of Jacobus ‘Jac’ Gubbels in 1933 to the present, the highways of Texas have benefited from their environmentally directed vision. Highway alignment planning, roadside parks, winding vistas of scenic beauty, roadsides filled with Texas’ iconic wildflowers, native species plantings, erosion stabilization, drainage features, sustainable and climate conscious landscapes; all are part of the historic & monumental contributions made by TxDOT’s Transportation Landscape Architects.
