Jerry McCullough is in his third season as the director of operations for the USF men’s basketball team.

McCullough came to USF after spending the previous three seasons (2011-14) as the head coach at The MacDuffie School in Granby, Mass. Under McCullough’s guidance, the Mustangs played a competitive schedule that earned attention and interests from many college scouts. McCullough also spent a year at his alma mater, Rice High School in New York City as an assistant coach in 2010-11 and prior to that spent a season as an assistant coach at Hostos Community College in the Bronx during the 2009-10 season.

Adding one more connection to the New York area, McCullough was the head coach of the New York Gauchos in 2010-11, known as the premiere AAU basketball program in New York City. He took the team to the national semifinals and won the Rumble in the Bronx. Of the many high-profile alums of the Gauchos is USF assistant coach Rod Strickland.

Prior to coaching, McCullough enjoyed a 13-year professional career (1996-2009), mostly in Europe. The New York native started his playing career with the New Hampshire Thunder Loons of the USBL (1996-97) and then played with Gravelines in France (1997-98), Turk Telekom in Turkey (1998-99), Sioux Falls Skyforce of the CBA (1999-2000), Quad City Thunder of the CBA (2000), Pau-Orthez in France (2000-01), Oregon Scientific Cantu in Italy (2001-03), Metis Varese in Italy (2003-04), Armani Jeans Milano in Italy (2004-05), Dynamo Saint Petersburg in Russia (2005-06), Cibona Zagreb in Croatia (2006), UNICS Kazan in Russia (2007-08) and Pistoia Basket in Italy (2008-09).

McCullough played for Pittsburgh from 1991-96, earning his undergraduate degree in 1995. He is one of the best in Panthers history, ranking 17th in career scoring (1,342), second in career steals (252) and seventh in career assists (552). McCullough ranked 12th in the NCAA in steals (70, 2.8) and 14th in assists (175, 7.0) in 1993-94. He ranked ninth in the NCAA in steals (76, 3.0) in 1995-96. The two-time All-Big East Conference performer was a finalist for AP NCAA Player of the Year in 1993-94.
