On any Saturday morning you can catch coach Craig “KAT” Keys with five 12yr olds packed in his Chrysler New Yorker traveling around Brooklyn and Queens playing in tournaments. A few of the young ballers that may be familiar would be, Dave Edwards, Brian Walker and myself, Larry Cave. The landscape of Queens basketball in my era was everyone wanted to be the main player on their High School team so no one ever intentionally went to the same school. We all relished the competition of playing against each other. August Martin High School is were I enjoyed my playing days. Between 1987-89 NYC basketball was very competitive with players on every team. AMHS always managed a winning season but in my attendance, State and City titles always eluded us. Upon finishing High School I attended Norfolk State University. I walked on campus went to the student tryouts and made the team. After making the team as a walk-on, mu conversation with coach Christian was interesting because Norfolk was one of the schools that recruited me at August Martin. Coach would later ask me,” Why didn’t you tell someone you were coming?” Basketball and Life take a major turn when I had to sit out my freshman year of college due to test scores and grades. Unfortunately, A young man that grew up in the inner-city made a terrible decision to indulge in drug-trafficking. The decision led to a 10 years federal drug conviction. Returning into society I knew my calling would be to not let any of our young women and men to fall into the same misguided decisions that would detour my life. That’s when the non-profit CGE LAB was formed. CGE LAB provides programs in the juvenile justice system with aftercare services for young people to remain on track when the return to their families. CGE also offers free tutoring and training for athletes in urban neighborhoods that normally cant afford the fee’s that are normally charged these days. Free tournaments , clinics and mentoring is also offered.

An embarrassingly terrible all-star game where defense wasn’t just optional, but frowned upon. Prior to that, a very forgettable dunk contest won by a guy who hasn’t even played a single minute in an NBA game this season, and has played in 4 total games throughout his career. The coolest moment was the Steph vs Sabrina three-point shootout, which was overshadowed by Kenny Smith acting like a misogynistic fool. Just an all-around disaster for the league.

01.01.1970 01:00:00 24.07.2023 13:29:37
Carey Scurry is an American professional basketball player. A 6 ft 7 in (2.01 m) forward from Long Island University, Scurry played three seasons (1985–1988) in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Utah Jazz and New York Knicks. He averaged 4.7 points and 2.9 rebounds per game over the course of his NBA career.[1] Scurry also played in Greece, Spain, and Brazil. It is the hollow thud of basketball hitting the hardwood floor during a Long Island University game. But when Carey Scurry is out there, the ball doesn't hit the floor very often. For Scurry, a 6-foot-8-inch junior center, has become one of the top college rebounders in the United States. Most of this season, he trailed only the 7-foot junior star of Houston, Akeem Olajuwon, in National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I. Scurry, ranked third now with 13.3 rebounds a game - Xavier McDaniel of Wichita State has a 13.8 average - still is only about a rebound a game behind the more noted Olajuwon.

Konchalski had spent 43 years evaluating college basketball prospects and wrote and ran the High School Basketball Insider Report since 1979. He also took over ownership of the Five-Star Basketball Camp, which has seen NBA legends including Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing, Dominique Wilkins, LeBron James, Chris Paul, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving and more participate in the camp in their high school days. The HSBI Report was written on Konchalski’s typewriter and was mailed out 16 times a year the more than 200 college coaches who subscribed to it. It served as a scouting report, evaluation and rankings list hundreds of prospects. “Tom just tried to help everybody,” Iona College coach Rick Pitino told the New York Post. “He was just a very humble, kind, special man. … If you asked him about a player, he would give you the mother, father, nephew, nieces, he would know every single person in the family, and he would know the connections, what you would have to do to get the kid.” He was known to many as “The Glider” because of his ability to slip into a gym unnoticed and assess players on his trademark yellow notepad. Konchalski was also known for his incredible memory and the fact he never had a cellphone, VCR or answering machine. His detail in describing players in his HSBI was the stuff of legend as well. Of former NBA star Jamal Mashburn, Konchalski wrote in the HBCI that Mashburn had “the body of a blacksmith and the touch of a surgeon.” Future All-NBA guard Penny Hardaway, he said “deals like Trump, dishes like Julia Child and delivers like Domino’s.” He also once said of Kenny Anderson’s college prospects: “Only the Father, Son and Holy Ghost are ahead of him.” NBA stars Donovan Mitchell and Tobias Harris — both of whom were born and raised in New York — took to Twitter on Monday to pay homage to Konchalski, as did several other players and others in the basketball world.
