“Bible Translation”: Bible Study #2—Understanding the Challenges of Translation

When it comes to the Bible, people have lots of good questions: ““Why are there so many translations of the Bible? What does it take to translate the Bible into English? Which Bible translation is really God’s Word? Can we be sure that the Bible we have is really the Word of God?” Have you ever asked one of those questions? In this Bible study, we’re studying all sorts of questions about God’s Word and how it is translated for us today.
In this second lesson, we studied the challenges of translation. Every language, including English, has lots of idioms that are difficult to translate into other languages. In addition, most words and phrases could be translated in multiple different ways. We looked at three passages from the New Testament, heard how they would be translated literally into English, and looked at a dozen different English translations to see their similarities and differences. In the end, we recognized that it’s a good thing to have so many reliable English translations of the Bible available to us today. We hope you can watch our Bible study. God bless you!
