Mannequins, lasers and smoke improve the energy efficiency of aircraft ventilation

The DLR Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology in Göttingen is developing and testing novel ventilation concepts for long-haul aircraft.
The tests took place in a new large-scale research facility modelled on an aircraft cabin. The mannequins simulate the passengers: smoke and lasers make the air flow visible. The tests were conducted as part of the ADVENT project, within the framework of the EU Clean Sky 2 research programme.
