Tug-of-war is Skye's favorite playtime activity, both indoors and outdoors. It rained all day on Cinco de Mayo in the Puget Sound region, and Skye was bored! Diane and I did take her for a short morning walk around our community, holding large umbrellas over our heads to keep us from getting soaked, but it wasn't enough exercise to satisfy an 18-month-old Norwegian Elkhound. On this wet and dreary day, Skye constantly approached me carrying a tugging toy in her mouth, growling gently, poking me with her nose and pleading with her eyes for me to engage in a challenge of strength. Skye is skilled at this ferocious game, and she never intentionally bites my hand, although I do sometimes get scraped by a tooth during our struggles.
