FraunhoferIPA Fraunhofer IPA has been researching and developing surface technology for over four decades. Among other things, the researchers deal with the question: How have materials to be composed and coatings designed so that raw materials, products and applications are environmentally stable, durable, of high quality, efficient, environmentally friendly and sustainable? Science is working with effects that can give surfaces their desired properties. Tribology, hydrophobicity or antibacterial surfaces play an important role whenever steel is involved. Self-healing and self-repairing properties can contribute to greater sustainability in shipbuilding, for example. In building technology, there are already concepts for versatile surfaces that interact with their environment. They are always the interface to the environment and this also includes people as users - both in an industrial and social context.
But what actually happens on the surface? The effects that give surfaces their properties are usually only visible on the basis of measurement curves. You should take a look INSIDE the surface! That's exactly what happens in our movie...
