A number of Nation members have asked how the new SCN Backwoods 4yo (released April 18, 2024) compares to the SCN Backwoods 3yo (released in March 2022).
The 3yo rye spent all its years in a re-charred French Oak Shiraz cask baking in the hot Yackandandah Australian heat. The 4yo that was just release is comprised of 2 casks (both 3yo ryes from ex-re-charred American Oak) that were married together for another year in the re-charred French Oak Shiraz cask that held the original SCN Backwoods bottling. How's that for a mind bender?!

Tasting notes on the new 4yo are as follows:
Color: Burnt orange
Nose: Balsa wood, dehydrated apple rings, and a freshly opened pack of unfiltered cigarettes but with rich sweetness in the form of chocolate covered Shredded Wheat and hints of Cherry Lips and Strawberry Starburst
Palate: Wonderful mouthcoating texture with abundant notes: walnut skins, chocolate dipped cherries dusted in cocoa powder, fresh wood shavings, vibrant rye spice, Biscoff cookies, and Whoppers – quite earthy and a touch herbaceous
Finish: Moderate to long with lingering rye spice, more wood shavings, drying cocoa, black licorice and then, on the very end, a bright citrus flourish
