Acts 7:55-60 The story of Stephen's stoning may not seem a promising reading for the Coronation weekend, except that as Stephen dies under a battery of stones, he sees Jesus 'standing at the right hand of God'. Now there IS a gift of a picture: King Jesus, risen and ascended Lord, standing in a place of authority. There are only a few places in the Bible where royalty stands: in anger and to honour. I can imagine Jesus standing in anger at Stephen's opponents and in honour of his faithful witness, Stephen. However magnificent a picture Stephen saw, is it true? Is Jesus an 'empire-builder'? Yes - read Daniel 7:13-14 and Philippians 2:8-11 to see the extent of the authority he has been given. His loving leadership has been the plan all along. If this is true, then Jesus has to be good. If Jesus is good, then his leadership is welcome in our disordered world. There's no halfway house on this one, no 'grey area'. Either Jesus is at the right hand of God or he isn't. What do you think? Here's a link to a related video I made (before the death of the Queen) https://youtu.be/wcPfyJLVNj8
