All West Ham have to do is avoid defeat against SC Freiburg on Thursday night to secure their place in the last 16 of the Europa League and avoiding a play-off against a Champions League dropout.
Whatsmore, it was ensure a third consecutive season as Group Stage winners and further establishing the club as a strong European outfit.
However, given the current level of performance and last weekend's 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Fulham, there isn't a great deal of confidence that we'll get the job done.
SC Freiburg, on the other hand, need to win to be group winners but have already secured their place in the Europa League knockout stages.
There is a lot riding on this one. A season with European football means having to navigate a busy fixture schedule, so winning the group and avoiding two play-off fixtures in February could is important to ensuring we keep the squad fresh and ready for the last 16 AND the latter stages of our domestic season.
