Candlemas - the story of Simeon and Anna, as the circle of witnesses to who Jesus is widens. The Holy Spirit makes Jesus; identity known to them both as they wait for God to act and worship him faithfully in the Temple. Jesus is the glory of his people, Israel - literally their God and their salvation, their 'consolation'. He has come to be 'the light of the nations' so that God's salvation may reach 'to the end of the earth.' (Isaiah 49:6) Simeon makes the link between the child he holds and Isaiah's prophecy.
