· 17.04.2024 · 16:15:17 ··· ··· Wednesday ·· 3 (3) Sotheby's
To celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Impressionism, Philippe Piguet, step-great-grandson of Claude discusses his family legacy and how his childhood days spent in the house of the father of Impressionism had shaped his future. He describes also his passion for contemporary art, a moral obligation that he owes to Claude Monet.

A graduate in Lettres Modernes, History, Art History and Archaeology (University of Paris I, 1969-1975) and Museology (Ecole du Louvre, 1979), Philippe Piguet was has been Professor of Art History at the Institut Supérieur des Carrières Artistiques (ICART, Ecoles Denis Huisman, Paris) since 1986. For over twenty years, he has also given numerous lectures throughout France and beyond. Although his field of study covers the period from the mid-20th century to the present day, his main interests lie in the Impressionist period - more specifically Claude Monet, whose great-great-grandson he is - and in contemporary art as it has developed since the 1960s.

From March-May 2024, Sotheby’s will host an exciting program of auctions, events and talks in London, Paris, New York, and Hong Kong that will honor the figures who shaped the cultural landscape for more than a century alongside Contemporary artists who have been inspired by the spirit of Impressionism.
