St. Augustine asserted the angels were the FIRST to be created by God on Day 1. Le there be Light and there was Light, or the Angels. One third rejected God out of pride, the highest ranking being Lucifer, and they--the dark--were separated from the Light, i.e., cast from Heaven.
This differentiates from the creation of the sun, the moon, and the stars, which were all created on Day 4.
St. Thomas Aquinas and many other Church Fathers subscribe to this assertion.
