Pain Brings Perspective
Pain Holds Potential
Jesus’s healing ministry took place to ultimately qualify His Messiahship:
Jesus healed to show His power over sickness and death.
Ex: Lazarus (John 11) Jairus Daughter (Mark 5)
Jesus healed to show His Kingship and authority to forgive sins.
Ex: Paralytic (emphasis on spiritual healing) (Mark 2)
Pain Promises Presence
Before you begin with discussion, please have someone in your group share a S.O.A.R. entry from last week’s passages.
DISCUSSION:
In what seasons have you struggled to see past your pain? Maybe you are there now. When waiting on God to heal you or someone you love, have you struggled to believe that God could bring any good? When Chrissy read the key verse (James 1:2-4) What were your first thoughts? How did you feel?
When you consider that you can embrace a new perspective in your pain, pain then begins to hold the potential for God to do a healing work both in you and through you. God wants to take what was meant to be your prison, what was meant to defeat you and make you bitter, He wants to make it your platform - to make you and those around you better - for His glory. How have you experienced or seen God birth purpose from pain?
When it comes to the list of “Truths Regarding Healing” that Chrissy mentioned, which is easier for you to believe? Which have you wrestled with? Which did you need to hear most today?
Healing is not dependent on a formula.
Healing is not linear and not always immediate.
Healing is a journey of faith.
Jesus’s healing power is not limited in your life.
God is not punishing you
While He always has a plan for your pain, you may not always get to see every purpose in this life.
In seasons where you have been waiting for Jesus to be Healer and bring restoration, How have you experienced His presence? How does the promise of His presence enable you to endure? How have you experienced His presence and power through community?
