Waiting is so hard! We want answers now; our needs seem urgent, and if we are not careful, we can slip into doubt that God is good. Read the following scriptures on waiting. What promises can you pull out from them? Psalm 25:5, Psalm 33:20, Psalm 38:15, Isaiah 40:31. 2. Sarah laughed at the angel of the Lord’s declaration that she would become pregnant and give birth by the following year. Share with your group when the Lord did the impossible in your life. How did it increase your faith? Where are you waiting on God to do the impossible? 3. God is always faithful to His promises. Joyce shared how God’s promise came packaged in a way she didn’t expect. Share with your group how God answered His promise in a way you didn’t like or expect. How did you navigate or “wrestle well” in that season? How did you see His glory magnified? 4. When we wait, we can choose unbelief or confidence in the Lord. Our decision to wait confidently shows that we expect good things from God. “Expecting” versus “hoping” is a huge leap of faith. Read 2 Corinthians 4:16-18, and share how these verses can encourage us in our waiting. 01.01.1970 01:00:00 03.04.2024 20:58:09
1. Read Judges 6:12-16. What’s ironic about how the angel of God addresses Gideon? 2. What does it say about God that he’d call Gideon by a name that didn’t match his actions? 3. Read 2 Corinthians 12:9-10. What difference does it make to your relationship with God to know He fully recognizes your weaknesses yet still calls you to follow him? 4. Fear, unbelief, and lack of knowing our true identity can keep us from taking steps of faith. Gideon is an incredible example of how patient God is with us. How have you experienced God’s patience? What is keeping you from stepping out in obedience today?

1. The story of Job in the Bible is challenging. So many questions come from God allowing this man to be tested and experience pain and loss. When you think about your own pain and loss, how have you processed it with God? 2. God meets Job where he is; he cares for Job in the midst, and he carries Job and sees him through the storm. How have you experienced God’s presence in your life during a pain or loss? How has he met you, cared for you, or carried you? 3. Job was honest with God about what he was going through because he feared God. What does it mean to fear God but not be afraid of God? 4. Job 42:5 says, “I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes.” Share your experience when you went from hearing about God’s power and presence to experiencing it. Is there an area you are asking God to meet you in right now? 5. Read Job 1:1. This is what God said about Job. What do you desire God to say about you?

What tips do you have for children doing chores and maybe even making them fun? How have you taught your children the spiritual dignity of work by letting them see the work you do outside of the house…how you help, defend, serve or create? Have you ever had a season of unemployment and how did you help your children to navigate and understand this? Colossians 3:23-24 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.

DISCUSSION: 1. How has God shown up in your waiting?

DISCUSSION: 1. In the book of Judges, it says, “all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.’ This is still true today, we often believe our personal truth is absolute truth. Read Psalm 119:89, Isaiah 40:8, Malachi 3:6 and Matthew 24:35. What do they say about God’s Word as absolute truth? 2. Read Jeremiah 17:9-10. What does it say about the heart? Do these verses bring comfort or fear to you? 3. Read Proverbs 4:23. This verse reminds us that we must carefully defend and protect our hearts. What are some indicators that reflect that your heart has not been feeding on the things of God? Ex. Anxiety, anger, lust. 4. Before a word comes out of our mouth, before an action is taken, it always starts as a seed of thought. Read 2 Corinthians 10:5. Do you have trouble taking thoughts “captive?” Share with the group what has helped in the past to overcome wrong thinking. As a group say this out loud-May the words of my mouth, my meditation-thoughts, and every movement of my heart be always pure and pleasing and acceptable before your eyes, my only Redeemer, my Protector-God. Psalm 19:14 KEY VERSES: “See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of this world , and not according to Christ.” Col. 2:8 “The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle that no one can figure out. But, I God search the heart and examine the mind. I get to the heart of the human. I get to the root of things. I treat them as they are, not as they pretend to be.” Jer. 17:9-10 “So may the words of my mouth, my meditation-thoughts, and every movement of my heart be always pure and pleasing, and acceptable before your eyes, my only Redeemer, my Protector-God.” Psalm 19:14 BIBLE READING PLAN VERSES: Mark 7:14-23 Romans 14 Isaiah 29:13-16

Matthew 13:44 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it. DISCUSSION: In this message series, we’ve looked at Jesus the Hero: the Son, King, Healer, Teacher, Lover, Servant, Sacrifice and Lord. How has your understanding of Jesus changed? When we talk about Jesus the Lord, what parts of your life are easier for you to surrender to him? Read Romans 10:9 and Romans 6:9-11. Discuss what these passages say about Jesus conquering death and sin. What does this mean for you? How does it give you hope for the places that are harder for you to give over to Him? Often in life we need a “draw a line in the sand moment.” We are going to take a moment in worship and write down the thing we need to surrender, the thing we need to hand over to God and leave in His hands. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42 NIV Beautiful Moms 2023 Spring Week #6 Sheri Prescott “Jesus, come and walk the halls of this house Tread this place and turn it inside out With Your mercy... By going to Jesus with what was upsetting her, Martha, lived out 1 Peter 5:7, “Cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you,” What is something you need to share with Jesus today? What is on the top of your mind? What is frustrating you? What doesn’t seem fair? What are a few unique differences you see in your husband, kids, or even friends at this table? How can you embrace those differences instead of letting them divide you? Do you have a favorite Bible reading plan, devotional, Bible study app, accountability or scripture memorization tool? Jesus the Servant How Can I Serve When I Don’t Have Enough? Chassidy Thomas NOTES: We are chosen to serve Serving is not about me We serve out of humility love and obedience God gives us an abundance of grace to run the race! Next Steps: Evaluate what you have Evaluate what you do well Start small Remember you have been called and you have what it takes! Before you begin with discussion, please have someone in your group share a S.O.A.R. entry from last week’s passages. DISCUSSION: Read Matthew 12:17-21 again. What are some characteristics of Jesus, as Servant, that stand out to you? What are some of your challenges in this current season when it comes to serving? If you were to make a list, what qualities come to mind when you think of how the world may define a successful or influential leader? What about a servant leader? Do you see any similarities? Do you see any differences in how your natural inclination or experiences might have shaped YOUR definition of a great leader in comparison to the list of qualities of one whom is a servant leader? Sometimes serving is not so much about what we need to add to our plate but how can we show up in our season for the one right in front of us. Write down a few ways you can make room to serve in this season - right where you are at. What do you love to do? What comes naturally to you? What is a hobby, strength or passion you can use to meet needs right in front of you? Who is one person you currently “rub shoulders with” that you need to be more intentional about cultivating relationship with by serving them well in their season? Jesus the Lover Are You Worth the Sacrifice? “The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. He must become greater; I must become less.” John 3:29-20 Pastor Patricia Davis NOTES: Jesus’s _____________________ changes everything. Jesus’s _________________ is undeniable. DISCUSSION: Imagine yourself, the BRIDE and Jesus was at the end of the aisle looking at you so sweetly, so proud, saying, “From this day forward you do not have to live in shame, or believe the lies, doubt, or guilt because I have come to change everything because I love you!” Is this hard to believe? How have you wrestled with feeling worthy…enough? How many times have we denied Christ by living life our OWN way? Have you ever been able to look back and see His loving pursuit of you, how He was Faithful and True, in your story - even at times when you were not? How does this make you feel? Read and discuss the passage in Luke. Can you empathize with the criminal in this story? Would you have enough courage to ask Jesus to remember you? Do you believe that God is truly a good God? Do you believe that He died with YOU in mind? For Y O U? Because He desperately wants to spend eternity with you? It wasn’t that He had to but He wanted to! Jesus the Teacher Jesus, How can I help? He answered, “Love the Lord your God with all of your heart and with all of your soul and with all of your strength and with all of your mind” and “Love your neighbor as yourself” Luke 10: 27 Michele Laccabue DISCUSSION: Please read Luke 10: 25-37. Starting at verse 30, Jesus’ parable teaches an earthly story with a heavenly message. What ‘heavenly message’ are you ready to activate in your life? Share a time you loved someone through serving them in a capacity that was a sacrifice of your time, finances, and/or comfort zone. How did Jesus move in the experience? Reread Luke 10:27 and then Matthew 22:34-40. What similarities do you notice in both interactions between Jesus and a Pharisee? What does Jesus teach are the greatest commandments of all? Check out the Old Testament scripture that Jesus is referencing, Deuteronomy 6:5 and Leviticus 19:18. Jesus is the hero of our stories. He put this group of ladies together on purpose and for a purpose. How can you pray for one another this week? How can we help each other? KEY VERSES: Luke 10: 25-29, 36-37 (NIV) On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?” He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[a]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.” But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”... “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him. Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” James 1: 22 (NIV) Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Romans 12: 9-10 (NIV) Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Jesus is Healer Does God Really Have a Plan For Your Pain? “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” James 1:2-4 Chrissy Mayer NOTES: Pain Brings Perspective Pain Holds Potential Jesus’s healing ministry took place to ultimately qualify His Messiahship: Jesus healed to show His power over sickness and death. Ex: Lazarus (John 11) Jairus Daughter (Mark 5) Jesus healed to show His Kingship and authority to forgive sins. Ex: Paralytic (emphasis on spiritual healing) (Mark 2) Pain Promises Presence Before you begin with discussion, please have someone in your group share a S.O.A.R. entry from last week’s passages. DISCUSSION: In what seasons have you struggled to see past your pain? Maybe you are there now. When waiting on God to heal you or someone you love, have you struggled to believe that God could bring any good? When Chrissy read the key verse (James 1:2-4) What were your first thoughts? How did you feel? When you consider that you can embrace a new perspective in your pain, pain then begins to hold the potential for God to do a healing work both in you and through you. God wants to take what was meant to be your prison, what was meant to defeat you and make you bitter, He wants to make it your platform - to make you and those around you better - for His glory. How have you experienced or seen God birth purpose from pain? When it comes to the list of “Truths Regarding Healing” that Chrissy mentioned, which is easier for you to believe? Which have you wrestled with? Which did you need to hear most today? Healing is not dependent on a formula. Healing is not linear and not always immediate. Healing is a journey of faith. Jesus’s healing power is not limited in your life. God is not punishing you While He always has a plan for your pain, you may not always get to see every purpose in this life. In seasons where you have been waiting for Jesus to be Healer and bring restoration, How have you experienced His presence? How does the promise of His presence enable you to endure? How have you experienced His presence and power through community? OTHER VERSES: Matthew 4:23 2 Cor 12:9-10 Hebrews 12:1-3 BIBLE READING PLAN VERSES: (From the S.O.A.R. method) Matthew 22,23,24
