Easter 6: Paul is in Athens. He debates with the philosophers in the Areopagus. 'You have a shrine dedicated to an unknown god', he says. 'Well, I know him.' 'He is Lord of all. He sets boundaries and benchmarks. And he blesses us.' 'You can know him too - he wants to be discovered.' I sneaked a a couple of soapboxes into my reflection... Paul was going great guns until he started on the theme of resurrection. People will debate 'god' for ever round a pub table but start to talk about Jesus and the conversation grinds to a halt. There's no speculation about God if he has already defined himself in Jesus. Paul had three responses to his speech. Some scoffed, some wanted to know more, some believed immediately.
