NoaH Corey 7.4.23 Fourth track and closer to the B-side of their fourth untitled album, Led Zeppelin IV, November 8, 1971. Writing commenced in Wales, 1970 by Plant and Page. The music from bits of ideas Page had collected from recordings. The first attempt at lyrics were improvised fireside in the cottage they were working in with Jimmy strumming the chords on guitar and Robert with pencil and paper in hand. The guitarist claims "a huge percentage of the lyrics were written there and then". He also recalls, "I knew it was good, but I didn't know it was going to be almost like an anthem… but I knew it was the gem of the album, sure". Never released on its own as a single it took until 1973 to reach anthemic status. Plant once gave $10,000 to listener supported radio station KBOO in Portland, Oregon during a pledge drive after the DJ solicited donations by promising the station would never play the song. He was channel surfing in a rental car he was driving to the Oregon Coast after a solo performance in Portland and was impressed with the non-mainstream music the station presented. When asked later for a reason why, he replied, "that it wasn't that he (the disc jockey) didn't like the song but he'd heard it before"
