“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” (Matt. 16:19 NIV)
Anyone who reads this immediately sees that this is an amazing honor and no small gift. Someone may hand us keys from a new car or even a house, but keys from heaven. That is an astounding reward. Behind the Judeo-Greek text that calls these keys κλεῖδας (kleidas) is a Hebrew concept of the מַפְתְּחוֹת מַלְכוּת הַשָׁמָיִם (maftechot malchut hashamaim) translated as “keys of the kingdom of heaven.”
