These ordinary-looking cars shock with their performance and make the new Porsche 911 look underwhelming. No one can deny the allure of flashy sports cars and supercars, and few companies have been making them better than Porsche. The Porsche 911 Carrera – the base model – is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine. It can zip from 0-60 in 4.0 seconds, maxing out at a top speed of 182 mph. The top model, the Porsche 911 Turbo S, is powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, and can go from 0-60 in a blistering 2.6 seconds, with a top speed of 205 mph. The Carrera delivers 379 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque, while the Turbo S delivers 640 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. The Carrera is priced at $106,100, and the Turbo S costs more than double, priced at $216,100.
That said, while the world drools over these cars that would make anyone on the street stop and turn, there is a section of automotive enthusiasts who chase pure performance. These purists often look out for what are called sleeper cars. Simply put, sleeper cars are incredibly ordinary-looking cars that deliver extraordinary performance. Built with light, often aerodynamic bodies, these cars carry incredibly powerful engines. They look like a common vehicle easily spotted on roads the world over but are powerful enough to take on any supercar. We will be comparing acceleration and top speed, along with current prices.
