The visit of the wise men to Jesus, now a child. Mary and Joseph must have found somewhere more 'permanent' to stay - they can't have gone back home, Jesus is more than a baby by this time. There's no timeline in the Bible so we have to guess at that. But who is this child? That's the question. I've identified two old testament readings that I think shed light on what's going on, Psalm 72 and Isaiah 60. This is no ordinary visit on the spur of the moment. It's part of an ongoing plan devised by members of the Trinity from a heart of compassion for a human race that seems to be unable to help itself. Jesus comes as Saviour and redeemer. How can we resist 'so great a salvation'? (Hebrews 2:3)
