Jon Perry - Genetics & Evolution Stated Casually Many people use the words "wild" and "feral" interchangeably, but animal breeders have specific meanings for each word. Pigeons, American "wild" horses, and Florida boa constrictors are all examples of feral animals - feral meaning "having escaped domestication". That said, depending who you ask, boas might just be considered a "non-native species" in Florida rather than "feral" since it's not clear how domesticated they really were before escaping the pet trade.
How much selective breeding needs to happen before a population is considered "domesticated"? In biology, most categories have fuzzy, debatable edges.
