Pigeons, American "wild" horses, and Florida boa constrictors are all examples of feral animals - feral meaning "having escaped domestication". That said, depending who you ask, boas might just be considered a "non-native species" in Florida rather than "feral" since it's not clear how domesticated they really were before escaping the pet trade. How much selective breeding needs to happen before a population is considered "domesticated"? In biology, most categories have fuzzy, debatable edges./media:description> media:community> media:starRating count="243" average="5.00" min="1" max="5"/> media:statistics views="3228"/> /media:community> /media:group> /entry> entry> id>yt:video:CPWYkiwzWG4/id> yt:videoId>CPWYkiwzWG4/yt:videoId> yt:channelId>UCIQ8Zpb_NYmKcRLkRI3wb7w/yt:channelId> title>The Modern Synthesis of Evolution #science #biology #animals/title> link rel="alternate" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPWYkiwzWG4"/> author> name>Jon Perry - Genetics & Evolution Stated Casually/name> uri>https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIQ8Zpb_NYmKcRLkRI3wb7w/uri> /author> published>2024-02-11T14:00:09+00:00/published> updated>2024-02-28T14:10:01+00:00/updated> media:group> media:title>The Modern Synthesis of Evolution #science #biology #animals/media:title> media:content url="https://www.youtube.com/v/CPWYkiwzWG4?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="390"/> media:thumbnail url="https://i4.ytimg.com/vi/CPWYkiwzWG4/hqdefault.jpg" width="480" height="360"/> media:description>The modern synthesis is often described as the merger between evolution by natural selection (from Darwin), and Mendelian genetics./media:description> media:community> media:starRating count="274" average="5.00" min="1" max="5"/> media:statistics views="3798"/> /media:community> /media:group> /entry> entry> id>yt:video:InlDEw-4Wz4/id> yt:videoId>InlDEw-4Wz4/yt:videoId> yt:channelId>UCIQ8Zpb_NYmKcRLkRI3wb7w/yt:channelId> title>Phenotypic Plasticity #biology #evolution #animals/title> link rel="alternate" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InlDEw-4Wz4"/> author> name>Jon Perry - Genetics & Evolution Stated Casually/name> uri>https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIQ8Zpb_NYmKcRLkRI3wb7w/uri> /author> published>2024-02-09T12:45:00+00:00/published> updated>2024-03-13T05:13:53+00:00/updated> media:group> media:title>Phenotypic Plasticity #biology #evolution #animals/media:title> media:content url="https://www.youtube.com/v/InlDEw-4Wz4?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="390"/> media:thumbnail url="https://i2.ytimg.com/vi/InlDEw-4Wz4/hqdefault.jpg" width="480" height="360"/> media:description>We have evolved the ability to adapt in real time to certain stresses, even without change to DNA. ··· ··· ··· ··· Many people use the words "wild" and "feral" interchangeably, but animal breeders have specific meanings for each word. In biology, most categories have fuzzy, debatable edges.

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 09.02.2024 · 12:45:00 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· We have evolved the ability to adapt in real time to certain stresses, even without change to DNA. These real-time changes are not evolution, but the ability to make these real-time changes evolved. In other words, each plastic ability exists because of DNA mutations that enabled it were selected for in the past.

18:: Transversion vs Transition Mutations

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 07.12.2022 · 00:25:21 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· While it is accurate to say that most mutations are random, in that cells don't plan or control the types of mutations they get, it's not correct to say that all mutations are equally likely. The physical nature of DNA means that certain types of mutations are more common than others. Here we learn about one such case! The difference between transversion and transition mutations!
