They appear to be molting off their winter coats, and also several of them look to be about ready to give birth within the next few weeks.

Instead it makes a turn and heads into the woods above our house and continues it's meandering hunt.

All is well until 10:00 PM comes around and us humans start our 4th of July fireworks show. You can see the moment the big bangs start and get the bear's attention. After a couple "bangs" the bear picks up the pace and begins making tracks out of the area!

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 02.07.2023 · 23:09:54 ··· ··· ··· ··· ··· ··· This young color phased Black Bear has climbed almost 20 feet up this tree and decided to check out the camera up close and personal. It managed to tear off the plastic camoflauge camera wrap but doesn't seem to have damaged the camera. It will have to be worked on though to tighten everything back up and realign it. The location is very steep and rugged. One might notice that the little bear has lots of debris in it's coat which tells me it's been rummaging around in thick brush, probably feeding on greens and insects. It's looking pretty thin so it best get busy eating something other than cameras!

Fortunately it doesn't wreak any havoc on this camera as it did on the last one requiring me to go fix that one up. Hoping this little bear doesn't develop any bad habits and start messing with the cameras. Will see I guess...

Seems like it saw or heard or smelled something that made it change it's mind and head back up the mountainside into cover.
