this film responds to a paper called "women ritual and power"- by Janet l. jacobs. the paper describes a ritual for abused women performed in the 90s called "take back the night". we updated the ritual and performed our own version of it at the white cliffs of over. this whole process was a ritual to experience a full range of human emotion, we took ourselves to the cliff's edge and decided not to jump. the ritual has extra attention to anger and action, something we don't often see in spirituality.

this piece explores how I felt about my body after being raped, how trauma affects us, how we heal from trauma, how we help others heal while trying to heal ourselves, and even the feminine experience of nightlife and its connections to sexual harassment. so really there is a lot to get into with this one. At this point in the project, the performance is a semi-improvised piece. moving forward I hope to develop this project creating more iterations of this choreography and exploring the themes further.
