Worse still, the courtesans are nowadays reviled as prostitutes. Did they really fight as freedom fighters against the British? Were they deliberately deprived of their powerful position in Indian society at the time by the British - their reputation desecrated in order to suppress the threat they posed?
Or were the taiwafs never anything other than prostitutes in the courts of Indian kings?

But how much truth is there in the series created by a successful Bollywood director (Sanjay Leela Bhansali)?
In today's India and Pakistan, the true story of the Indian courtesans (the so-called taiwafs), who were once highly respected in the courts of the nobility, has been forgotten. Worse still, the courtesans are nowadays reviled as prostitutes. Did they really fight as freedom fighters against the British? Were they deliberately deprived of their powerful position in Indian society at the time by the British - their reputation desecrated in order to suppress the threat they posed?
Or were the taiwafs never anything other than prostitutes in the courts of Indian kings?

New generations of readers relate to his nightmarish, bizarre stories in novels like “The Metamorphosis” and “The Trial”. Directors, painters, writers and dancers from all over the world still find inspiration in Kafka today.
This despite the writer being full of self-doubt and wishing to be forgotten after his death. His last will and testament stipulated that all unpublished texts be burned without exception. Fortunately, his friend Max Brod ignored his wish and preserved for the world classic texts that seem both universal and contemporary.

Due to extreme weather conditions, festival organisers have announced a total admission stop. Shortly before the festival was set to begin on August 2nd tens of thousands of metal fans were told they won't be admitted to the festival grounds and to stop any travel towards the festival grounds due to reaching "reasonable capacity" in current weather conditions. Only around one third of the 85,000 ticket holders made it onto the festival grounds before the admission stop.
How did Wacken turn from a modest festival with 800 visitors into one of the biggest metal festivals in the world? On this episode of Arts Unveiled, we'll take you on an enthralling adventure through the origins, growth, and enduring legacy of one of the world's most legendary metal festivals.

The comic strip character was known as “Bild Lilli”. Lilli was so popular, the newspaper decided to market a three-dimensional version which was sold as an adult novelty toy. In the 1950s, one of the founders of Mattel traveled Europe and bought a few Lilli dolls to take home. She re-worked the design of the doll and later debuted Barbie at the New York toy fair on March 9, 1959. The rest, is herstory!

01.01.1970 01:00:00 23.06.2023 17:12:24 Allegations of sexual misconduct against Rammstein singer Till Lindemann have rocked the music world. Lindemann is accused of recruiting young women for sex at concerts - allegedly through a system that involved coercion as well as the intoxication of young, female fans with alcohol and date rape drugs. Lindemann has his lawyers declare that all the accusations are untrue without exception.
The accusations have sparked a re-examination of the music industry, so-called "groupie culture" and the culture of "sex, drugs, rock 'n' roll."
The first woman to go public with allegations against Till Lindemann was the Irish fan Shelby Lynn. Since then, dozens of other women have claimed to have similar experiences at Rammstein concerts. In June 2023, Berlin's public prosecutor's office launched an investigation against Lindemann. But aside from any potential criminal charges that may result, many are asking: what exactly is systematic abuse of power when it comes to rock stars and their fans?
We look at the Rammstein case, and how it's affected the rock band's business, as well as the history of groupies and of sexual misconduct allegations in the music industry. Are sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll inextricably linked? Is it time to change the treatment of women by the music industry?

Their story sounds like a fairy tale: Singers Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad fall in love with songwriters Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, make music together and celebrate worldwide success: ABBA told this love story perfectly and turned it into music that thrilled millions of listeners.
In their songs, they take the fans with them into the ups and downs of their private lives, tell of love, longing, successes, but also of the painful separation of the two couples in the early 1980s.
The melodies are catchy, their music amazingly complex and sophisticated. With "Waterloo" they achieved their breakthrough in 1974. In the following eight years, the Swedes landed one number one hit after another and wrote music history with their novel pop sound.
Even after the band broke up in 1982, ABBA managed to continue to swim on the wave of success with their music and to inspire new generations of fans: The hashtag ABBA has billions of views on Tiktok!
Their songs are covered by music greats such as Erasure and Cher, Madonna sampled "Gimme", the musical "Mamma Mia" and its film adaptation with Meryl Streep: of course also a global success. The fascination of ABBA's hits seems timeless.
