Maar die barrières kunnen verstoord geraken bij aandoeningen zoals MS, alzheimer of hersentrauma's. Lore Van Acker toont met haar onderzoek aan dat het ontbreken van tregs (een type T-cellen) resulteert in verzwakte hersenbarrières. Bovendien ontdekte ze ook dat een behandeling met IL-34 proteïnen bij muizen helpt om hun hersenbarrières te versterken.

Een beetje zoals een firewall dat doet tegen virussen op een computer. Maar die barrières kunnen verstoord geraken bij aandoeningen zoals MS, alzheimer of hersentrauma's. Lore Van Acker toont met haar onderzoek aan dat het ontbreken van tregs (een type T-cellen) resulteert in verzwakte hersenbarrières. Bovendien ontdekte ze ook dat een behandeling met IL-34 proteïnen bij muizen helpt om hun hersenbarrières te versterken.

Astrid Luypaert toont met haar scriptie aan dat die perceptie niet klopt. Ze bracht verschillende voorwerpen uit een museum naar een woonzorgcentrum en vond dat de bewoners een duidelijke voorkeur hadden voor nieuwe en onbekende objecten. Daarbij kunnen activiteiten met erfgoed zowel op korte als op lange termijn het welbevinden van Alzheimer-patiënten verbeteren.

06.12.2023 08:00:27 01.01.1970 01:00:00 01.01.1970 01:00:00 In het kader van de mtech+prijs gaan SciMingo vzw en mtech+ jaarlijks op zoek naar de sterkste technologische inzendingen van de Vlaamse Scriptieprijs. Die zoektocht leidde naar 3 finalisten.
Ontdek nu de drie video's en stem voor jouw favoriet via scriptieprijs.be/mtechplusprijs2023. Zo bepaal je mee wie er op dinsdag 19 december naar huis gaat met de publieksprijs.
De textielindustrie behoort tot één van de meest vervuilende industrieën ter wereld. Want de efficiënte recyclage van textiel is vandaag nog steeds een moeilijke opdracht. Dat komt deels door het toevoegen van vreemde stoffen zoals kleurstoffen tijdens het productieproces. Die kleurstoffen zorgen ervoor dat de kwaliteit en sterkte van het textiel bij recyclage niet meer even goed is. Elise ging voor haar masterproef op zoek naar een milieuvriendelijke manier om katoenafval te ontkleuren. Het proces dat zij voorschrijft heeft niet enkel het potentieel om recyclage van afvaltextiel te doen toenemen, maar kan het recyclageproces zelf efficiënter en milieuvriendelijker laten verlopen.
