'They're Weaponizing Our Judicial System:' Senator Markwayne Mullin Reacts To Trump Verdict

A historic ruling as former President Donald Trump becomes the first United States president to be convicted of a crime after a Manhattan jury found him guilty on 34 counts Wednesday.

With this unprecedented ruling, many Americans are left wondering about its potential implications for this November's upcoming presidential election.

U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin joined News 9 This Morning to discuss.
Mullin is on the campaign trail with the Senate and the Trump team and said when the news broke, he found himself disappointed in the judicial system.

"Personally, for me, it was a sad day," Mullin said. "We shouldn't be doing this to our judicial system and just giving it a black eye."

He said he thinks the ruling will be overturned and Trump will never face jail time.

He said Democrats are using this as a political tactic to sabotage his political run.

"As we all know, that doesn't keep the president or actually any person from running for political office," Mullin said.

He said he thinks this will only begin to fuel Trump's supporters and donors.

"This is going to backfire greatly on the Democrat Party," Mullin said.

While the convictions were related to business filings, Trump has also been accused of paying off a porn star after having an affair.

Mullin said he considers Trump a friend and is confident in his moral character.

"Anybody that knows President Trump on a personal level understands this is a man that loves this country. He absolutely loves his family, and he loves the people, and he will do anything for it," Mullin said.

He said the national media has been unfair to Trump and that they portray him in a bad light compared to other politicians such as President Barack Obama and President Joe Biden.

"That doesn't fit into the national media's mindset. They always want to just go after the stuff that may be questionable and so they continue to drag his character through the mud," Mullin said. "The character I know is a man that's a solid individual that has raised good kids."

Mullin said he thinks this will not affect the ballot in Oklahoma and will actually drive out more voters.

"This attack on President Trump is going to drive turnout at a higher level than what we even saw in 2020. The more they go after President Trump, the more people get upset because they see that they're weaponizing our judicial system, and people want to take back this country," Mullin said.

He feels the country is in a bad place under President Biden and that voters want to turn it around.

"We've got to turn this ship around. It's going in the wrong direction underneath the leadership of Joe Biden, and I believe people see that and that's why people are moving toward President Trump." Mullin said.
