In this Bible study, “These Words Are Written,” we are studying the story of the Bible from the Bible itself. The Bible has a lot to say about when, why, and how it was written. Starting in the Old Testament and continuing through the New Testament, we will study what the Bible says about itself. As we do, we’ll be encouraged by the truthfulness and faithfulness of God’s Word and grow in our faith in Jesus as our Savior, because “these words are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31).
In this ninth lesson, we studied the transition from the Old Testament to the New Testament. The last book of the Old Testament—Malachi—was written about 400 B.C. There was then a period of “silence” for over 400 years. It was during that time period that the books of the Apocrypha were written. We talked about the Apocrypha and explained why we don’t include the Apocrypha in our Bibles. We then read how the New Testament starts and saw how there is a clear, perfect connection between the end of the Old Testament and the beginning of the New Testament. It’s all God’s perfect Word!
