This haunting piece by Feike Asma is based on the tune from the Genevan Psalter set to the text of Psalm 42. It begins with a soft and somber Fantasie based on verse 3, stating, "O my soul, why are you cast down?" It then builds into a rousing Toccata and Finale based on verse 5, "But the LORD will send salvation." It is full of color and very romantic harmonies.
I played this on the 1741 Hinsz organ from the Bovenkerk in Kampen, NL as sampled by Milan Digital Audio.
