Teachers at Seaside Primary School at Walvis Bay have launched a programme involving that pupils regularly take part in spelling bees in their indigenous languages. The head of the school’s language department, Alvina Imbodi, says the events are aimed at exposing pupils to their mother languages and at helping parents and children be proud of these. The initiative has sparked interest in the region, and a regional indigenous spelling bee will be held next term. Video: Taati Niilenge
