Have you ever not responded to God’s calling over your life? God called Jonah to go to the city of Nineveh to preach but Jonah disobeyed by travelling a much longer distance to get to Tarshish. Do you ever make things harder on yourself as well? It could’ve been so much easier for him! Eventually Jonah’s disobedience caught up to him, as he boarded a boat to cross the Mediterranean Sea. Jonah’s disobedience caused a storm around them. They were fighting great waves. They knew Jonah was running from his God – so they picked him up and threw him into the ocean. The storm immediately began to calm. At this, the sailors understood the power of the LORD. They began believing. What happens to Jonah next isn’t too lucky – the Lord provided a big fish to swallow Jonah. Jonah remained in the belly of the whale for three days and three nights.
Think about a time when the Lord asked you to do something, and you disobeyed. How did it feel? What were the consequences of that decision?
