Harrison Ford has had one of the most celebrated careers in Hollywood, and Indiana Jones 5 is the best possible movie for him to end on. Ford made his acting debut in the mid-1960s and has consistently worked in the film and TV industry since. He is the face of some of cinema's most recognizable characters, including Han Solo in Stars Wars, Rick Deckard in Blade Runner, and the titular hero of Indiana Jones, but at 80 years old Harrison Ford may be announcing his retirement from acting soon.
Ford first played Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones Jr. in Steven Spielberg's 1981 classic Raiders Of The Lost Ark and played the character three times in The Temple of Doom (1984), The Last Crusade (1989), and The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull (2008). Indy is famous for his wild adventures and is responsible for some of cinema's most iconic scenes, including the well-known boulder run sequence. Created by George Lucas, Indiana Jones pays homage to action heroes from the 1930s and has since inspired modern-day adventurers, including Tomb Raider's Lara Croft and Uncharted's Nathan Drake.
The Last Crusade set up Indiana Jones for the perfect ending that saw him ride off into the sunset, but unfortunately, the franchise was a victim of its own success. Inevitably Indy was brought back for another adventure in The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull and although it did well at the box office, for many is the worst Indiana Jones movie because of its confusing alien storyline and comedic treatment of Ford's hero. Both Indiana Jones and Harrison Ford deserve to finish on a high, and Indiana Jones 5 can be that movie.
The most beloved roles played by Harrison Ford have already been brought to fitting conclusions except for the iconic Indiana Jones - which Indiana Jones 5 is sure to change. Aside from Indiana Jones, Ford is undoubtedly best remembered as Han Solo, Star Wars' cynical space smuggler. After a 32-year absence from playing the captain of the Millenium Falcon, Ford returned as Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and his story was neatly wrapped up by linking Han to the new crop of Star Wars characters and killing him off in a meaningful way.
That's not to say the plan for the movie needs to have the character die. Blade Runner 2049 gave Rick Deckard, another of Ford's most well-known characters, a happy ending where he finally got to meet his daughter courtesy of K's sacrifice. Whatever his fate in the upcoming Indiana Jones movie, LucasFilm has already stated that they won't make another Indy movie without Ford, following the failed Han recasting in Solo: A Star Wars Story, meaning Indiana Jones 5 could be a perfect final note. Harrison Ford has a unique flair for playing charismatic rogues, which is why Indiana Jones 5 would be the perfect way for him to end his acting career..
