Elon Musk Just LEAKED An UPGRADED Tesla Model 3!
Tesla is preparing to reveal Project Highland, a larger, "sportier" makeover of the Model 3 that might go on sale in Q4. Hence, rather than a 2023 Model 3, the longer, more streamlined Model 3 update may be referred to as the 2024 version. Following the disclosure that Tesla has begun a historically large-scale equipment purging and retooling of production lines at its Fremont facility, Bloomberg now claims that Giga Shanghai has already begun producing a test batch of the rumored Model 3 design refresh known as Project Highland. Since the earliest reports of Tesla's intentions for a Model 3 facelift surfaced, both of the factories—one for North America and one for Asia—have been speculated to serve as the product's manufacturing hubs.
There is much to look forward to in terms of internal and aesthetic upgrades, even though one of Tesla's key goals with the new Model 3 is to reduce production costs by introducing unibody castings and eliminating unnecessary pieces or features. Previous rumors and alleged test mule sightings suggest that the mid-cycle makeover of the Model 3 will have new headlights and bumpers, as well as a more austere interior with a stalkless steering wheel, akin to what Tesla did with the Model S refresh.
Sources at Giga Shanghai for Bloomberg are now reiterating both of those rumors. There are reportedly some staff who work on Project Highland there, and earlier this month they were requested to begin their shifts by putting their phones in designated lockers. According to reports, the new Model 3 pilot production is the reason for the unprecedented shroud of secrecy since Tesla doesn't want to take a chance on more images leaking before announcing the new features and design.
Despite this, Bloomberg's insiders add to our understanding of the Model 3 refresh by revealing that it will be longer and "sportier" than the present model, which is undoubtedly getting a little past its prime. It is unclear whether this would entail a more aggressive design, such as the more aerodynamic aesthetics and headlamps that have previously leaked, or if there would be adjustments made to the engine to make it more performance-oriented.
Bloomberg also affirms a "streamlined" interior, which is consistent with rumors that Tesla may do away with the buttons and vents inside the car, as it did with the Model S update. The stalkless steering wheel with capacitive buttons that was allegedly seen on a recent Model 3 refresh could also be introduced. Hardware 4.0 FSD kit with additional and better cameras, including one in the front bumper, is one of the other major modifications.
It's unclear when the Highland Model 3 will really go on sale, however if past experience is any guide, Tesla may introduce the updated Model 3 in October, just in time for 2024 to be declared the model year. The trial production and prototype testing should begin in earnest in the summer if Tesla wants to sell the redesigned Model 3 in the fall, so this does not preclude the possibility of further rumors and sightings.
