From semiconductors to solar power: Combating climate change with the help of technology
The world’s thirst for energy is continuously rising – yet the days of fossil fuels are numbered. Semiconductors are the key to bringing climate change to a halt as they empower a decarbonized economy that runs on green electrical energy. The path to achieving this begins with energy generation: the primary energy source of the future will be solar, followed by wind. The green energy generated needs to be converted and transmitted as efficiently and stored as intelligently as possible. And finally, we have to use it as efficiently as possible in electrified applications across all sectors, from mobility and buildings to industry. Semiconductors are the central link at every stage of the energy conversion chain, and innovation in the field will be critical to save our planet and still improve our quality of life at the same time.
About the speaker:
Dr. Herbert Diess is the Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Infineon Technologies AG. He was the CEO of Volkswagen AG from 2018 to 2022. Before that, he held senior positions at BMW and Robert-Bosch.
