Defense Now On November 21, 2023, U.S. Air Force and Navy aircraft lined up on the runway at Kadena Air Base in Japan for an elephant walk. The elephant walk demonstrated the U.S. Air Force's ability to quickly generate combat airpower.

Kadena Air Base is the second-largest base in the United States Air Force. It's located in Okinawa City, Okinawa, Japan.
The term "elephant walk" originated in World War II. It describes the appearance of taxiing aircraft, which resemble a group of elephants walking to a watering hole. The term was used again during the Vietnam War to describe formations of B-52 Stratofortress bombers.
