LOS MEDANOS COLLEGE DIVISION OF CHORAL MUSIC

The Los Medanos College’s Vocal & Choral Division is administered by the Grammy nominated and quarterfinalist, Professor Silvester Carl Henderson. The vocal/choral program is design to allow for maximum development of specialized skills in particular musical areas of interest. Vocal students perform a wide variety of repertoire which includes classical, jazz, musical theatre, gospel, country, rhythm & blues and current popular music. The LMC Chamber Chorale tours each year performing intense classical choral repertoire, at some of the most reputable universities and concerts halls throughout California. The Gospel Choir sponsors one of the largest educationally sponsored multicultural community festivals in Contra Costa County. This “Celebration Event”, has attracted world acclaim celebrities such as the noted Billy Porter, Kenny Lattimore, Kirk Whalum, Howard Hewitt, Gerald Albright, Kurt Carr, Darly Coley, Paul Jackson Jr., Melanie Daniels (vocal coach for Mariah Carey), “American Idol Alumni”, Latoya London,Lawrence Beamen from “America Got Talent”, and most recently Kathy Taylor Brown. The department of Music offers an “Associates of Arts Degree”, in music as well as a “Certificate in Performance”. The department transfers a large majority of our students to Music Conservatories and Four year Universities.
