July 3, 4 and 5 each set new records for hottest days on Earth according to the U.S. National Centers for Environmental Prediction. Climate change, the El Niño weather pattern and summer in the northern hemisphere are all factors in record-breaking heat. While July 5 was the hottest since 1979 when average global daily temperature was first collected, climate scientists believe Earth last saw similar high temperatures 125,000 years ago.
